Remember Rote

Bobby Layne, and Matthew Stafford are often mentioned when football fans talk about the greatest Detroit Lions Quarterbacks of all time.  Some Lions fans will even bring up former players like Scott Mitchell, Erik Kramer, and Greg Landry.  Rarely does Tobin Rote get credit for being one of the greatest Detroit Lions Quarterbacks of all time.
Tobin Rote played Quarterback for the Detroit Lions from 1957-1959.  Rote split time at Quarterback with Bobby Layne during the 1957 season, and eventually took over the role when Bobby Layne was injured towards the end of the regular season.  Rote lead Detroit to the 1957 NFL (National Football League) Championship Game where the Lions defeated the Cleveland Browns 59-14.  Detroit traded away an aging Bobby Layne early in the 1958 season partly because the Lions believed in Tobin Rote's ability.  Rote played the game ahead of his time, and was a weapon as a runner.  The Detroit Lions released Tobin Rote following the 1959 NFL season.

Hamilton Has LeFevour!

When I look at some of the backup quarterbacks that have seen time in the NFL (National Football League) this season, I can't believe that they're all better then Dan LeFevour!  At Central Michigan University, LeFevour broke several records, and lead the Chippewas to bowl wins in the Motor City Bowl in 2006, and the GMAC Bowl in 2010.  LeFevour was also named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) in both bowl game victories.  Although drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 6th round of the 2010 NFL Draft, LeFevour's career never took off in the NFL for whatever reason.  Lefevour also had a brief stint in Cincinnati with the Bengals (in 2010), before leaving the NFL for the CFL (Canadian Football League).
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL signed LeFevour at the beginning of last season, and the move paid off last week when LeFevour lead the Tiger-Cats to a 19-16 overtime win against the Montreal Alouettes.  LeFevour entered the game in the overtime period, and used his legs to find the endzone on a game winning (2 yard) touchdown run.  LeFevour has always been known as a dual threat at the quarterback position, which is one of the many reasons why I can't believe there isn't a spot for him in the NFL.  LeFevour is the only player in NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) history to have thrown for over 12,000 yards, and rushed for over 2,500 in a career.  The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will rely on Lefevour in some capacity in this Sunday's Eastern Final showdown against the Toronto Argonauts.  The winner will play in the 101st Grey Cup against the winner of the Western Final game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and the Calgary Stampeders.  LeFevour is currently the second leading rusher on the Tiger-Cats this season, and has rushed for 7 touchdowns.  Lefevour has also thrown 2 touchdowns this season for the Tiger-Cats.
