Memory Lane: The Palace
The final remnants of the Palace of Auburn Hills were imploded on Saturday, July 11th. It seems crazy that a perfectly good arena would be demolished, and replaced with a new office development. It's more reasonable when an older stadium is scrapped, but the Palace still felt like a new facility. The Palace was a state of the art venue, and many people even preferred it over Little Caesars Arena. My favorite thing about the Palace of Auburn Hills was the sight line. It felt like there wasn't a bad seat anywhere in the building.
The Palace of Auburn Hills was known as the home of the Detroit Pistons, but the venue was excellent for concerts. The Detroit Fury, the Detroit Neon, the Detroit Rockers, the Detroit Shock, the Detroit Vipers, and the Detroit Whalers also played home games at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Game Notes
- The Palace of Auburn Hills opened in 1988.
- Little Caesars Arena opened in 2017.
- The Palace of Auburn Hills was located at 6 Championship Drive.
- The Pontiac Silverdome officially closed in 2013. The Detroit Lions left the facility after the 2001 NFL (National Football League) season.

25 Years of Whalers

The Plymouth Whalers have existed for 25 years as a hockey organization affiliated with the OHL (Ontario Hockey League). They've been known as Ambassadors, Junior Red Wings, and Detroit Whalers, and the team has called Compuware Arena their home since the 1996-1997 season. Compuware Arena is located at 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth. Click on the link below for more information about Compuware Arena.
The Plymouth Whalers are currently in 3rd place in the Ontario Hockey League's West Division with 17 points, and an overall record of 8-12 (1 overtime loss). Alumni Report: Troy Smith

When the Plymouth Whalers head on the road tonight, they'll face a Whaler Alumni on the opposing bench. Troy Smith is the head coach of the Kitchener Rangers, and spent four seasons with the Plymouth Whalers organization. During the 1995-1996 season, and the 1996-1997 season, the team was known as the Detroit Whalers. Smith was a talented defenseman, but rarely scored goals for the Whalers. Smith scored just 1 goal in each of his first two seasons with the Whalers, but did contribute a combined total of 21 assists through that time period. Smith slightly increased his scoring totals during the 1997-1998 season scoring 3 goals, and adding 13 assists. By the 1998-1999 season, Smith had proven to be a dual threat on the ice scoring 6 goals, and adding 13 assists, in 54 games with the Whalers. After his time in the Ontario Hockey League, Smith went on to play professional hockey in the ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League), along with other professional hockey leagues. Troy Smith has been on the Kitchener Ranger coaching staff since 2006, and served as the assistant coach, until excepting the head coach responsibilities this season.
