Football: UFL News

 



     The USFL (United States Football League), and the XFL (Xtreme Football League) have merged to form the UFL (United Football League).  The 2024 UFL season features 2 conferences, and 8 teams.  The USFL Conference includes the Birmingham Stallions, the Houston Roughnecks, the Memphis Showboats, and the Michigan Panthers.  The XFL Conference includes the Arlington Renegades, the D.C. Defenders, the San Antonio Brahmas, and the St. Louis Battlehawks.  

     The Michigan Panthers currently have an overall record of 1-0 after Kicker #38 Jake Bates (Arkansas) kicked a 64-yard game winning field goal on Saturday to give the Panthers an 18-16 victory over the St. Louis Battlehawks.  The Michigan Panthers roster features 5 players that played college football in the state of Michigan including Offensive Tackle #79 Jarrett Horst (Michigan State), Quarterback #19 Brian Lewerke (Michigan State), Running Back #28 Nate McCrary (Saginaw Valley State), Tight End #84 Gunnar Oakes (Eastern Michigan), and Defensive End #48 Kenny Willekes (Michigan State). 

     The Michigan Panthers are scheduled to host the Birmingham Stallions on Sunday, April 7th, at 12:00 p.m.  The Panthers are scheduled to host the Houston Roughnecks on Sunday, April 14th, at 12:00 p.m.  The Panthers are scheduled to host the Arlington Renegades on Sunday, May 5th, at 1:00 p.m.  The Panthers are scheduled to host the Memphis Showboats on Saturday, May 18th at 4:00 p.m.  The Michigan Panthers play their home games at Ford Field in downtown Detroit.

-  #4 E.J. Perry (Brown) is currently the starting Quarterback for the Michigan Panthers.


-  The Michigan Panthers roster also includes Safety #7 Corrion Ballard (Utah), Quarterback #8 Danny Etling (LSU), Running Back #31 Wes Hills (Slippery Rock), Safety #21 Kai Nacua (BYU), and Defensive Tackle #99 Walter Palmore (Missouri).


-  The Birmingham Stallions won the 2023 USFL Championship.

USFL On YouTube

 



     The USFL (United States Football League) YouTube channel currently has 167 videos for fans of professional football.  Some of the videos on the USFL YouTube channel include "The Michigan Panthers are back in Detroit at Ford Field | USFL", "USFL Overtime Shootout: New Orleans Breakers vs. Michigan Panthers | USFL", and "Helmet Cam: Best moments from the inaugural 2022 USFL season".  The USFL YouTube channel currently has over 20,000 subscribers.  

     The Birmingham Stallions won the 2022 USFL Championship.  The Michigan Panthers finished the 2022 USFL season in 3rd place in the USFL North Division standings with an overall record of 2-8.  The Michigan Panthers are one of eight teams scheduled to compete in the 2023 USFL season.  The Michigan Panthers, and the Philadelphia Stars are both scheduled to play their home games this season at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

Jeff Fisher Steps Down

 



     On Friday, February 3rd, Jeff Fisher stepped down as Head Coach of the Michigan Panthers due to personal reasons.  Mike Nolan has been hired as the new Head Coach of the Panthers.  Nolan was the Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2005-2008.  Mike Nolan has been on the coaching staff for eleven different NFL (National Football League) franchises.

     The Michigan Panthers are one of eight teams scheduled to compete in the 2023 USFL (United States Football League) season.  The Michigan Panthers finished the 2022 USFL season in 3rd place in the USFL North Division standings with an overall record of 2-8.  The Panthers are scheduled to play their home games this season at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

USFL Games In Detroit

 


The Michigan Panthers, and the Philadelphia Stars will play their home games at Ford Field in Detroit.




     On Thursday, January 26th, the USFL (United States Football League) announced that the Michigan Panthers, and the Philadelphia Stars will play their home games this season at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.  Three other cities will also host USFL games this season including Birmingham, (Alabama), Canton, (Ohio), and Memphis, (Tennessee).  The 2023 USFL season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, April 15th.  

     The 2023 USFL season will once again feature eight teams, but the Tampa Bay Bandits are being replaced by the Memphis Showboats.  The Michigan Panthers finished the 2022 USFL season in 3rd place in the North Division standings with an overall record of 2-8.  The Birmingham Stallions (9-1) defeated the Philadelphia Stars (6-4) 33-30 to win the 2022 USFL Championship.

Panthers Release Patterson




     On Wednesday, May 25th, the Michigan Panthers released Quarterback Shea Patterson.  The New Orleans Breakers claimed Patterson off waivers on the same day.  Both teams compete in the USFL (United States Football League).  The Panthers will play the Breakers tomorrow night on FS1 at 9:00 p.m. in Birmingham, Alabama.  Shea Patterson played Quarterback for the University of Michigan in 2018, and in 2019.  The Michigan Panthers selected Shea Patterson with the #1 overall pick in the 2022 USFL Draft. 

     The Michigan Panthers are currently in 3rd place in the USFL North Division standings with an overall record of 1-5.  The New Orlean Breakers are currently in 2nd place in the USFL South Division standings with an overall record of 4-2.  There are 8 teams competing in the 2022 USFL season. 

     The Michigan Panthers still have three Quarterbacks on their roster including #22 Eric Barriere (Eastern Washington), #12 Paxton Lynch (Memphis), and #0 Josh Love (San Jose State).  The New Orleans Breakers have two other Quarterbacks on their roster including #10 Kyle Sloter (Northern Colorado), and #11 Zach Smith (Tulsa).  

     Shea Patterson has completed 96 of 161 passing attempts for 973 yards, and 4 touchdowns this season.  Patterson has also rushed for 2 touchdowns this season.  Shea Patterson has thrown 5 interceptions, and was also sacked 13 times in 6 games played. 

     The Michigan Panthers roster currently features three players that played college football locally including Linebacker #0 Taiwan Jones (Michigan State), Linebacker #44 Terry Myrick (Eastern Michigan), and Defensive Tackle #92 Kyshonn Tyson (Grand Valley State).

Football: USFL News

 



     The reboot of the USFL (United States Football League) is set to kick off in April of 2022, and games will be televised on FS1 (Fox Sports 1).  The USFL relaunch will feature eight teams, and two divisions.  The North Division will include the Michigan Panthers, the New Jersey Generals, the Philadelphia Stars, and the Pittsburgh Maulers.  The South Division will include the Birmingham Stallions, the Houston Gamblers, the New Orleans Breakers, and the Tampa Bay Bandits.  All eight franchises competed in the original USFL that ran from 1983-1985.  The Michigan Panthers won the 1983 USFL Championship.
