2 Year + 10 Days Anniversary!

The Mitten State Sports Report continues to roll along!

On April 9th, 2012, the Mitten State Sports Report was born in a small town located in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan.  A post about the Plymouth Whalers was the first article ever published on this website, and the response was overwhelming from the get go.  Stories, and pictures regarding pro wrestling, auto racing, and college baseball followed, and the foundation for the beginning of the Mitten State Sports Report was created.
There were 35 posts published in 2012, and the Mitten State Sports Report received 4,000 views during it's first few months.  The amount of content increased the following year, and 265 posts were published in 2013. The Mitten State Sports Report received 16,000 views in 2013, and the month of May (2013) was the highest viewed month so far.  Soccer, and recreational leagues found their way on here, and the momentum began building into the warmer months of Spring.  Classic cars, and editorials became popular during the Summer, and college hockey found a place on here when the weather turned cold.  The Mitten State Sports Report has currently received 24,983 views from people all over the world!
There are currently 32 channels on my television set that feature sports, or that are sports related.  Most people have opinions about the major sports markets in their area, but where can you go to find out information about other sports, and athletes?  The Mitten State Sports Report is dedicated to highlighting sports, athletes, and events that you may not know about.  New teams are constantly being featured on here, and women's sports like softball are now an option for viewers.  Click on past months to check out all of the Mitten State Sports Report's archived material!  You can always leave a comment, and you can email the Mitten State Sports Report directly at mittenstatesportsreport@rocketmail.com

College Softball: Mott at HFCC

On Friday, Mott Community College (in black) swept Henry Ford Community College (in white) 16-0, and 14-1.

The Henry Ford Community College softball team hosted the Mott Community College Lady Bears on Friday, for a double header showdown in Dearborn.  Both games were scheduled for 5 innings, and all of the action unfolded at Ford Woods, Diamond #2.  Both schools are NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Division II programs, and both teams compete against each other in the MCCAA (Michigan Community College Athletic Association) Eastern Conference.  The Hawks softball team plays all of their home games at Ford Woods, located at 5700 Greenfield Road.
Mott Community College proved to be to much for the Henry Ford Hawks on Friday.  The Lady Bears defeated Henry Ford 16-0 in the first game, and won the second game 14-1.  The sky was blue for both games with no cloud cover in the area. The temperature ranged from 68-71 degrees during the double header, and there was an abundance of sunshine, mixed with a light breeze.
The Mott Community College softball team currently has an overall record of 8-10, but the Lady Bears are 3-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.  The Mott Lady Bears had a successful season last year finishing with a 28-8 overall record.  Click on the link below for more information about Mott Community College.  Be sure to check out exclusive photos from Friday's softball showdown in Dearborn.  Click on past months to see exclusive photos from archived Bears games.
The Henry Ford Community College softball team currently has an overall record of 0-18, and the Hawks are 0-10 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.  There are only two chances left this season to see the Henry Ford softball team at home.  The Hawks are scheduled to host St. Clair Community College on April 22nd (3:00 p.m.), and Oakland Community College on April 26th (1:00 p.m.).  Click on the links below for more information about Henry Ford Community College, the National Junior College Athletic Association, or the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.  You can always leave a comment, and you can email the Mitten State Sports Report directly at mittenstatesportsreport@rocketmail.com  Click on past months to check out exclusive photos from archived Hawks games.

College Softball: MU Wins 2

The Madonna University softball team continues to win games.  The Crusaders currently have a 23-6 overall record!

I was at Ilitch Park on Wednesday (April 2nd) watching the Madonna University baseball team play their 2014 home opener against Siena Heights University.  The teams played a double header, and there was about a 25 minute break between games.  I decided to walk over to the softball diamond to check out the field, and the overall facilities for the softball program.  University Field is home to the Madonna University softball team, and the turf along with the dugouts, and scoreboards would be considered to be top notch for any college program. The bleacher section is a bit inadequate for the amount of fans that attend games, but the softball program at Madonna University continues to grow, and the team continues to win games.
The Madonna University Crusaders hosted the Aquinas College Saints in a WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) Conference, double header showdown.  This was the first college softball game that I've ever been to, and this is the first women's athletic event that has ever been featured on the Mitten State Sports Report. The Crusaders swept the Saints 2-1, and 4-1 to improve their winning streak to 9 games.  Their winning streak improved to 11 games before #23 Davenport University defeated the Crusaders 3-2 yesterday.  Madonna University earned a bit of revenge against the #23 ranked team in the nation by winning the second game of the double header 4-3 (in 8 innings).
The Madonna University Crusaders feature one of the best pitchers in all of college softball.  #5 Bree Crampton has already been named WHAC Conference Pitcher of the Week twice this season, and was named NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) National Pitcher of the Week earlier this month. Crampton has already thrown two perfect games this season, and is the only Madonna pitcher to ever throw multiple perfect games.  Crampton went 3-0 in one week posting remarkable numbers in the process.  In 14 innings of work, Bree Crampton allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, and struck out 27 batters (0.00 earned run average).
The Madonna University Crusader softball team currently has an overall record of 23-6, and a 9-1 record in the WHAC Conference.  There are only two opportunities left this season to see the softball team play at home.  The Crusaders will host the Indiana Institute of Technology on April 16th, at 4:00 p.m.  Madonna University will host Concordia University on April 19th, at 1:00 p.m.  Both events are scheduled for double headers.  Click on the link below for more information about Madonna University athletics.  Click on past months to check out exclusive photos from some archived Crusaders games!
The Aquinas College Saints softball team currently has an overall record of 11-10, and a 3-3 record in the WHAC Conference.  Click on the links below for more information about Aquinas College athletics, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics!  Click on past months to check out exclusive photos from some archived Saints games!
