Cleary Added Esports

      The Cleary University athletic program added esports for the 2021 season.  The new addition comes with a 1,700 square foot esports arena that includes 24 custom built gaming stations, and a broadcast booth.  The Cleary University esports team will compete in games such as Call of Duty, Fortnite, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros.  The Cleary University esports team competes in the WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference).

Northwood Esports News

     On Sunday, November 22nd, the Northwood University Timberwolves defeated the University of Missouri Tigers four games to none to capture the first ever Maui Esports Invitational.  The game that was featured was Rocket League, and the event was delivered by goPuff.  The first ever Maui Esports Invitational Championship was televised on ESPN2. 

     The Northwood University Esports team won 20 out of 21 games in the first ever Maui Esports Invitational.  The Northwood Timberwolves defeated the University of Alabama in the quarterfinals, and then went on to defeat the University of Illinois in the semifinals.  ESPNU televised the semifinals of the first ever Maui Esports Invitational.

Oakland Adds Varsity Esports

Oakland University is adding esports to its varsity athletic program.

     Oakland University is adding esports to its varsity athletic program, and the Golden Grizzlies are set to compete in the fall of 2020.  The Golden Grizzlies are partnering with a professional esports team known as Team Renegades based out of Auburn Hills.  Team Renegades is owned and operated by former Detroit Pistons Forward Jonas Jerebko.  Oakland University has not yet named a coaching staff for its esports program.

-  Jonas Jerebko was with the Detroit Pistons for six seasons.



-  GameTime (in Auburn Hills) is the home of Team Renegades.



-  Steve Waterfield is the Athletic Director at Oakland University.



-  The official colors of the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies are Black, and Gold.
