Ferris State Wins Again

 



     On Saturday, December 17th the Ferris State University football team defeated the Colorado Mines Orediggers 41-14 to win the 2022 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II National Championship.  The Ferris State University Bulldogs finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 14-1.  The Bulldogs only loss of the season came at home on Saturday, October 15th against the Grand Valley University Lakers 22-21.  The Ferris State University Bulldogs compete in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).  The Ferris State University Bulldogs also won the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship.  

     The Ferris State University Bulldogs defeated the Davenport University Panthers 41-7 in the 1st round of the 2022 NCAA Division II Playoffs.  The Bulldogs defeated the Pittsburg State University Gorillas (Kansas) 17-14 in the 2nd round of the 2022 NCAA Division II Playoffs.  The Bulldogs defeated the Grand Valley University Lakers 24-21 in the 2022 NCAA Division II Super Regional Final.  The Bulldogs defeated the University of West Florida Argos 38-17 in the NCAA Division II National Semifinals.

Ferris State Wins Title

 



     On Saturday, December 18th, the Ferris State University football team defeated the Valdosta State University Blazers (Georgia) 58-17 to win the 2021 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II Championship.  The Championship game was broadcast live on ESPNU.  The Ferris State University Bulldogs finished the 2021 season with an overall record of 14-0.  Ferris State University competes in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).

Ferris Sports Update On CN900




     Ferris Sports Update TV can be seen throughout the week on CN900 (Comcast Network TV), and on the ferrisathletics YouTube channel.  Ferris Sports Update TV offers highlights, and news about all of the different teams in the Bulldogs athletic program.  Ferris Sports Update TV is hosted by Rob Bentley.

     Ferris State University is a NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II program, and the Bulldogs compete in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).  The Ferris State University Men's hockey team competes in Division I of the NCAA.

     The Ferris State University football team is currently ranked #1 in the Country according to the latest AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Division II Coaches Poll.  The Bulldogs currently have an overall record of 9-0 with one regular season home game left against the struggling Wayne State University Warriors (2-8). The NCAA Division II National Championship is scheduled for Saturday, December 18th, in McKinney, Texas.

Harris Rushed For 327 Yards




      On Saturday, October 30th, Wayne State University Running Back #7 Myren Harris carried the ball 20 times for 327 yards, and 4 touchdowns in a 56-21 victory over the Northwood University Timberwolves.  Harris broke a Wayne State University single game rushing record that was currently held by former Warriors Running Back #24 Toney Davis.  Harris also earned the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Offensive Player of the Week with his performance at home on Saturday night.  Myren Harris currently leads the Warriors in rushing this season with 1,028 yards, and 9 touchdowns.  The Wayne State Warriors improved their overall record to 2-7.

Warriors Football On CN900

 



     Live, an archived Wayne State University football games can be seen throughout the week on CN900 (Comcast Network TV).  The next live broadcast is scheduled for Saturday, October 30th at 6:00 p.m. when the Wayne State University Warriors host the Northwood University Timberwolves.  The Warriors currently have a conference record of 1-3, and an overall record of 1-7.  The Wayne State University football team is a NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II program, and the Warriors compete in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).

      Redshirt Freshman #7 Myren Harris leads the Warriors rushing attack this season with 701 yards, and 5 touchdowns.  The Warriors have given time to three different quarterbacks this season including Graduate #18 Jake AmRhein, Redshirt Junior #14 Chase Churchill, and Redshirt Freshman #12 Josh Kulka.  Redshirt Sophomore #13 Trevonte Davis leads the Warriors in reception yards this season with 568.  Davis has also accumulated 5 receiving touchdowns.

-  Wayne State defeated Davenport 16-3 on the road for the Warriors only victory of the season.


-  The Warriors have three games left this season.  Two home games vs. Northwood, and Grand Valley State, and a road game against Ferris State to end the season.

Softball: Madonna vs. Findlay





On Saturday, the University of Findlay Oilers defeated the Madonna Crusaders twice.  The scores were 11-1, and 12-2.











     On Saturday, the Madonna University women's softball team hosted the University of Findlay Oilers for a two game series.  The Oilers defeated the Crusaders 11-1 in the first game, and 12-2 in the second game. Saturday's doubleheader marked the home opener for the Crusaders women's softball team.  Scroll down to see exclusive photos from the second game of the doubleheader.

#7 Paige Montague pitched for the Crusaders.  Montague is a a left handed pitcher playing in her Sophomore season.






#11 Chelsea McManaway pitched for the Oilers.  McManaway is a left handed pitcher playing in her Sophomore season.






#1 Jordan Thayer stepped to the plate.  Thayer is playing in her Freshman season for Madonna University.  






#28 Becky Giacobbi is an Outfielder playing in her Freshman season for the Madonna Crusaders.

Sports On MES TV





The Oakland University hockey team (in black) competes in Division 1 of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association).










     MES TV (Midwest Entertainment Sports TV) is a great source for news, and information about several of our local sports teams.  MES TV offers free podcasts, videos, and live broadcasts of Oakland University hockey games.  The Golden Grizzlies compete in Division 1 of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association).

College Baseball EMU Wins 14-6





On Tuesday night, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team defeated Hillsdale College 14-6









     The Hillsdale College Chargers visited Oestrike Stadium on Tuesday night for baseball under the lights against Eastern Michigan University.  The weather was cold, and windy in the city of Ypsilanti, and the temperature began at 51 degrees, but dropped all the way down to 35 degrees.  The Eagles struck early scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.  Hillsdale College got on the board in the top of the 4th inning cutting the deficit to 4-2, but Eastern Michigan answered with 3 more runs in the bottom half of the 4th, and lead 7-2.  The Eagles scored 5 insurance runs in the bottom of the 7th, and Eastern Michigan held on for the 14-6 victory over the Hillsdale Chargers.
     Tuesday night's victory over Hillsdale marked the Eagles 499th all time win at Oestrike Stadium.  The Eagles currently have an overall record of 499-344-2 at Oestrike Stadium since the gates first opened back in 1971.  The Eagles will be looking for win number 500 (at Oestrike Stadium) this Tuesday when they host Madonna University at 6:00 p.m.
     The Eastern Michigan University baseball team currently has an overall record of 14-24, and the Eagles are 2-13 in the MAC (Mid-American Conference).  The Eagles opened up the 2014 campaign with a 6-5 win over Nationally ranked #20 Clemson University, and the Eagles also picked up a 4-3 road win on April 16th at University of Michigan.  Eastern Michigan University will be on the road this weekend for a three game series against the Ohio University Bobcats.  Click on the links below for more information about Eastern Michigan University athletics or the MAC.  Be sure to check out exclusive photos from Tuesday night's college baseball showdown.
     The Hillsdale College baseball team currently has an overall record of 14-28, and the Chargers are 12-14 in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).  Hillsdale competes in Division II of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), but the Chargers are not afraid to schedule tough opponents. A 5 run 7th inning gave the Eagles some insurance on Tuesday night.  EMU defeated Hillsdale 14-6.

Lakers Fall Short of Title!







     The Grand Valley State University football team lost in the National Semifinals of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletics Association) Division II Playoffs last Saturday, to Northwest Missouri State University 27-13. Grand Valley State hosted, and defeated arch rival Saginaw Valley State University 40-7 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs, went on the road and defeated Colorado State Pueblo 34-30 in the second round, and hosted, and defeated West Texas A&M 35-28 in the third round, before loosing on the road in the semifinal.  The GVSU (Grand Valley State University) Lakers finished the 2013 campaign with a 12-3 overall record, and a 7-2 record in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference).
     Grand Valley State has had much success in the NCAA Division II Playoffs in recent years, and a rivalry has developed with Northwest Missouri State University.  In 2005, the Lakers defeated Northwest Missouri State 21-17 in the NCAA Division II Championship!  In 2006, the Lakers defeated Northwest Missouri State 17-14 in the NCAA Division II Championship!  In 2007, Northwest Missouri State defeated the Lakers 34-16 in the NCAA Division II Semifinals.  In 2009, Northwest Missouri State defeated GVSU 30-23 in the NCAA Division II Championship.  The Lakers won back to back NCAA Division II Championships in 2002, and 2003, and then won back to back titles again in 2005, and 2006.
     The Grand Valley State University women's soccer team won the NCAA Division II Championship on December 7th, defeating West Florida University 2-0.  The women's team finished with a 24-0-1 overall record, and a 12-0 record in the GLIAC.  Their tie came in the first game of the season at Armstrong University 0-0.  This was the third NCAA Division II Championship in five years for the Lakers program.  GVSU also won the title in 2009, and 2010.
