Handball On ESPN3

 



     2023 World Men's Handball Championship games can be seen live on ESPN3.  The 2023 World Men's Handball Championship is taking place in Poland, and in Sweden.  Team USA is finished in 3rd place in Group G with 2 points, and an overall record of 1-2.  Egypt (3-0), Croatia (2-1), and Morocco (0-3) also competed in Group G.

     Team USA advanced to the Main Round of the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship along with twenty-four other countries.  Eight other countries will play for the President's Cup.  Team USA is currently in 6th place in Group IV of the Main Round with 0 points, and an overall record of 0-2.  Team USA is scheduled to play Bahrain today at 9:30 a.m. 

     The 2023 World Men's Handball Championship Final is scheduled for Saturday, January 29th in Stockholm, Sweden.  There are 32 countries competing in the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship.  Denmark won the last two championships in 2019, and in 2021.  The event is being hosted by the IHF (International Handball Federation).

-  Denmark finished in 1st place of Group H with 6 points, and an overall record of 3-0.  Denmark is currently in 1st place in the Main Round Group IV with 4 points, and an overall record of 2-0.   


-  Egypt finished in 1stplace in Group G with 6 points, and an overall record of 3-0.  Egypt is currently tied for 1st place in the Main Round Group IV with 4 points, and an overall record of 2-0.     


-  Norway finished in 1st place in Group F with 6 points, and an overall record of 3-0.  Norway is currently in 1st place in the Main Round Group III with 4 points, and an overall record of 2-0.


-  Germany finished in 1st place in Group E with 6 points, and an overall record of 3-0.  Germany is currently tied for 1st place in the Main Round Group III with 4 points, and an overall record of 2-0. 


-  Denmark, Egypt, Germany, and Norway are all scheduled to play games today.  Denmark vs. Croatia, Egypt vs. Belgium, Germany vs. Argentina, and Norway vs. Serbia.

Nye Wins Silver

 



     Katherine Nye won a silver medal in Weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.  Nye's silver medal came in the Women's light heavyweight classification (76 kg) on Sunday, August 1st.  Katherine Nye attended college at Oakland University, and Nye also went to high school at Rochester Adams High School.  Katherine Nye currently resides in Berkley, Michigan.

Grant On Team USA




     Detroit Pistons Forward #9 Jerami Grant is representing Team USA in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.  Grant averaged 22.3 points per game last year in his first season with the Detroit Pistons.  Jerami Grant is the son of former NBA (National Basketball Association) player Harvey Grant.  Former NBA star Horace Grant is the twin brother of Harvey Grant.  

     The expectations were high for USA Basketball going into training camp on July 6th, but Team USA suffered two early exhibition losses to Nigeria 90-87, and Australia 91-83.  Team USA recovered with two exhibition wins over Argentina 108-80, and Spain 83-76.  USA Basketball has been placed in Group A with three other countries including Czech Republic, France, and Iran.  Team USA will open up Olympic competition against France on Sunday, July 25th.

-  Jerami Grant was born in Portland, Oregon.


-  Jerami Grant played college basketball at Syracuse University. 


-  Jerami Grant was selected by the Philadelphia 76'ers with the 39th overall pick (2nd round) of the 2014 NBA Draft.


-  The USA Basketball roster also features San Antonio Spurs Forward Keldon Johnson, Chicago Bulls Guard Zach LaVine, and Denver Nuggets Center JaVale McGee.  


-  JaVale McGee was born in Flint, Michigan.  McGee played part of his High School basketball career at Detroit Country Day.  JaVale McGee is listed at 7'0.

Five Nations Tournament





The USA NTDP U17 Team is set to compete in the 2016 U17 Five Nations Tournament.










     The USA NTDP (National Team Development Program) U17 (Under 17) Team will compete in the 2016 U17 Five Nations Tournament beginning this Tuesday, in Plymouth.  The Five Nations Tournament takes place from Tuesday, February 9th - Saturday, February 13th at the USA Hockey Arena.  Team USA will compete against Finland, Sweden, Russia, and the Czech Republic.  The USA Hockey Arena is formerly known as Compuware Arena, and is located at 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth.  Click on the link below for more information about the USA NTDP, or the USA Hockey Arena.

Fargo 5 - 4 USA





On Friday night, the Fargo Force defeated Team USA 5-4.











     On Friday night, the Fargo Force defeated the USA NTDP (National Team Development Program) Under 17 Team 5-4.  The Fargo Force went on to outlast Team USA 4-2 on Saturday night.  Both teams compete in the USHL (United States Hockey League), but the teams are placed in separate Conferences.  Click on the link below for more information about the USHL.
     The USA NTDP also fields an Under 18 team that competes in the USHL.  The two teams will count jointly as one team in the USHL standings, but the U17 team will compete in the postseason should the team qualify. Team USA is currently in 8th place in the USHL Eastern Conference standings with 14 points, and an overall record of 6-8.  Click on the link below for more information about the USA NTDP.

ACHA Representing USA!





#12 Nick Taurence plays hockey for EMU, and is also representing Team USA in the Winter World University Games! 









     The ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) hockey program has been chosen to represent Team USA in this years Winter World University Games.  The games are taking place in Trentino, Italy, and several local area players have earned a spot on the roster.  Nick Taurence (pictured above) plays college hockey at Eastern Michigan University, and is playing on Team USA with Billy Balent from Oakland University, Phil Wendecker (pictured below) from Davenport University, and the Adrian College trio of Ryan Bachman, Bobby Bodette (pictured below), and Andre Rakas.  Dan Phelps from Livonia, is an Assistant Coach on the team, and Brian Moran from West Bloomfield, is the teams Video Coordinator.
     Team USA opened up the 2013 Winter World University Games with a 2-0 victory over Sweden on December 10th.  On December 13th, Team USA improved their record to 2-0 with a 3-2 overtime win over Latvia.  Team USA lost to Italy 5-1 on December 15th, but eliminated the Italian team 5-0 in the quarterfinals on December 18th.  Kazakhstan defeated Team USA 5-1 in the semifinals yesterday, and earlier this morning, Team USA lost to Russia 6-2 in the Bronze Medal Game.  Canada defeated Kazakhstan 6-2 in the gold medal game.
