Fighting Irish Dormant

     The Detroit Fighting Irish are dormant for the 2022-2023 hockey season, and perhaps for good.  The Fighting Irish previously competed in the Premier Division of the USPHL (United States Premier Hockey League).  The Detroit Fighting Irish merged with the Motor City Hockey Club to form the Motor City Gamblers in 2022.   

     The Detroit Fighting Irish were founded in 2012 as Tennyson Chevrolet.  The team competed in the MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League) from 2012-2015 before joining the USPHL for the 2015-2016 season.  The Fighting Irish played their home games at various venues including the Brownstown Sports Center (formerly known as The Ice Box), and Southgate Arena.  Scroll down to relive the memories of the Detroit Fighting Irish.

-  The Detroit Fighting Irish finished the 2021-2022 season in 4th place in the USPHL Midwest East Division standings with 47 points, and an overall record of 22-19-3 (3 overtime losses).  


-  Sam Shaheen was the Head Coach of the Detroit Fighting Irish in 2021-2022.  


-  Sam Shaheen is currently the Head Coach of the Motor City Gamblers.

Junior Hockey In Redford



On Saturday November 13th, the Detroit Fighting Irish defeated the Motor City Hockey Club 8-1.





     On Saturday, November 13th, the Detroit Fighting Irish (in black, and yellow) defeated the Motor City Hockey Club (in red, and white) 8-1 at Redford Ice Arena located at 12400 Beech Daly Road, in Redford.  Both teams compete against each other in the Premier Division of the USPHL (United States Premier Hockey League).  The Fighting Irish also defeated the Motor City Hockey Club 9-3 on Friday night.  Scroll down to see an exclusive photograph of Saturday's USPHL game in Redford.  

     The Detroit Fighting Irish are currently in 5th place in the USPHL Mid West East Division standings with 11 points and an overall record of 5-8-1 (1 overtime loss).  The Motor City Hockey Club is currently in 7th place in the USPHL Mid West East Division standings with 6 points, and an overall record of 1-9-3-1 (3 overtime losses, and 1 shoot out loss).

Pictures Of 2019





MHSAA hockey was featured on the Mitten State Sports Report in January.  Detroit Catholic Central defeated Trenton 1-0.






We attended a Detroit Waza Flo game in February.  Photo by Jason Pertile.






The USHL was featured on the Mitten State Sports Report several times in 2019.  Photo by Jason Pertile.






We attended a University of Michigan baseball game.  The Wolverines defeated the Manhattan College Jaspers 4-0.






Opening night at Flat Rock Speedway was featured on the Mitten State Sports Report in May.






The USPBL (United Shore Professional Baseball League) plays games at Jimmy John's Field, in Utica.






AFC Ann Arbor (in blue) vs. Grand Rapids FC (in white). 






California defeated Puerto Rico 8-3 to win the 2019 Junior League World Series.






Cruisin' Hines has been featured on the Mitten State Sports Report every year since 2013.






The 69th Annual Old Car Festival at The Henry Ford.






In September, the Concordia University football program held an intersquad game for their reserves.






College hockey games are featured on the Mitten State Sports Report.  GVSU defeated Schoolcraft College 6-1.






The Livonia City FC Reserves (in blue) played the Madonna University Men's soccer reserves (in white).  






The Detroit Fighting Irish compete in the Premier Division of the USPHL (United States Premier Hockey League).






We attended a Detroit Red Wings game in December.  The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-0.






Eastern Michigan University Men's basketball games were featured on the Mitten State Sports Report in December.

Fighting Irish Practice





The Detroit Fighting Irish practice throughout the week at Southgate Arena.











     The Detroit Fighting Irish practice throughout the week at Southgate Arena located at 14700 Reaume Parkway Civic Cir, in Southgate.  On Thursday, November 21st, the Mitten State Sports Report attended one of these practices.  The Detroit Fighting Irish compete in the Premier Division of the USPHL (United States Premier Hockey League).

Junior Hockey In Southgate





On Sunday, November 10th, the Fort Wayne Spacemen defeated the Detroit Fighting Irish 11-3.











     On Sunday, November 10th, the Fort Wayne Spacemen defeated the Detroit Fighting Irish 11-3.  The Spacemen also defeated the Fighting Irish 8-4 on Saturday, November 9th.  Both teams compete against each other in the Premier Division of the USPHL (United States Premier Hockey League).  This past weekends games were played at Southgate Arena located at 14700 Reaume Parkway Civic Cir, in Southgate.
     The Fort Wayne Spacemen are currently in 4th place in the USPHL Mid West East Division standings with 14 points, and an overall record of 7-10.  The Detroit Fighting Irish are currently in 6th place in the USPHL Mid West East Division standings with 8 points, and an overall record of 4-12.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs of USPHL action in Southgate.

North Stars Dormant





The Traverse City North Stars began as the Hartland Hounds back in 2012.











     The 2017-2018 USPHL (U.S. Premier Hockey League) season is taking place without the participation of the Traverse City North Stars.  The North Stars organization officially became dormant on July 4th, 2017.  The Traverse City North Stars began as the Hartland Hounds back in 2012.  The Hounds competed in the MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League) for three seasons, and the team won all three Veteran's Memorial Cups. 
     The Hounds moved to Traverse City in 2013, and the MWJHL merged with the USPHL in 2015.  The Traverse City Hounds became the Traverse City North Stars in 2016.  The North Stars will continue to update their official website with news regarding former players.  Click on the links below for more information about the USPHL, or the Traverse City Hounds.

MWJHL Playoffs





The Michigan Ice Dogs have qualified for the 2015 MWJHL Playoffs!  All 7 MWJHL teams qualified for postseason play!











     The MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League) Playoffs begin tonight, and all 7 MWJHL teams have qualified for the postseason.  The Traverse City Hounds have the #1 overall seed, and they have earned themselves a first round bye.  The remaining teams will be reseeded after the 1st round, and the Champion will claim the MWJHL Veteran's Memorial Cup.  The Traverse City Hounds are the two time defending MWJHL Champions!     The #2 Motor City Monarchs will host the #7 Michigan Ice Dogs in a best of three game series.  All 3 games (if necessary) will be played at the Fraser Hockeyland located at 34400 Utica Road.  Game 1 is scheduled to begin tonight at 7:15 p.m.  Click on the links below for more information about the Motor City Monarchs, or the Michigan Ice Dogs.
     The #3 Decatur Blaze will host the #6 Soo Firehawks in a best of 3 game series.  All 3 games (if necessary) will be played at the Decatur Civic Center located at 1 Gary K.
