LTU 3 - CMU 2

On Sunday afternoon, Lawrence Tech University defeated Central Michigan University 3-2.

On Sunday afternoon, the Central Michigan University Chippewas visited the Southfield Ice Arena to take on the Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils.  Both schools compete in Division 3 of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association), and both teams play in the North Conference, along with 25 other schools.  Each team entered Sunday's game with only one win so far this season, and both schools are currently near the bottom of the North Conference standings.
#7 Phil Lywood scored the first goal of the game on Sunday, and the Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.  #13 Collin Peters scored midway through the second period, and then added a goal in the third period, to give Lawrence Tech a commanding 3-0 lead.  It appeared as if Blue Devils goaltender #34 George Gryzwacz was in line for a shutout, but the Chippewas rallied late in the third period.  #19 Travis Gosselin, and #15 Mike Casper each scored goals for the Chippewas, to make the score 3-2 with 1:30 left in regulation.  Lawrence Tech hung on to earn the 3-2 victory, despite being outshot 34-21 by the Chippewas.
Lawrence Tech is currently towards the bottom of the North Conference standings with 5 points, and an overall record of 2-13 (2-10-1-2).  The Blue Devils play all of their home games at the Southfield Ice Arena, and will play their next game on January 10th (8:00 p.m.), when they host the University of Detroit Mercy. Central Michigan University is also near the bottom of the North Conference standings with 3 points, and an overall record of 1-13 (1-12-1-0).
