Comerica Park is in the process of upgrading its old lights with new LED lights.  The old lights were removed on Monday, December 12th, and the new LED lights are scheduled to be installed in February of 2023.  The new LED lights are expected to conserve energy and cause less glare for the players.  The new LED lights are also projected to look better on television and can be used for light shows when the Detroit Tigers hit a home run.  The new LED lights can also turn on and off instantly unlike the old lights that needed time to warm up.

Torkelson To Toledo

The Detroit Tigers sent First Baseman #20 Spencer Torkelson down to the Toledo Mud Hens earlier this afternoon.  Torkelson is currently batting .197 in 83 games played for the Tigers this season.  A bright spot for Spencer Torkelson has been his defense at first base.  Torkelson has only been charged with 1 error in 83 games played for the Tigers this season.  The move to Toledo should allow Torkelson to have less pressure at the plate.  Spencer Torkelson was selected by the Detroit Tigers with the 1st overall pick in the 2020 MLB (Major League Baseball) Draft.

The Detroit Tigers are currently in 4th place in the AL Central standings with an overall record of 37-55.  The Tigers are currently 12 games out of first place.  The Toledo Mud Hens are currently in 4th place in the International League West standings with an overall record of 45-43.  The Mud Hens are currently 8.5 games out of first place.

Memory Lane: Preseason

It seems like preseason games are quickly becoming a thing of the past.  Leagues have reduced, or scrapped their preseason games due to the pandemic, or for other various reasons.  The NFL (National Football League) did not have any preseason games this season, and the NHL (National Hockey League) is not scheduling any preseason games either.  Even college teams seem more willing to cancel non-conference games.

I wonder if preseason games will eventually become a distant memory in all sports.  The players can sometimes seem unfamiliar to even the most hardcore fans, and the games usually lack excitement, and intensity.  Another drawback to preseason games is the fact that leagues usually charge full price for tickets.  There's also a high risk for players to get injured in games that don't even count in the standings.

MLB (Major League Baseball) is still planning on holding Spring Training for the 2021 season.  The NBA (National Basketball Association) did play a reduced preseason schedule this season.  The Detroit Pistons finished the 2020-2021 NBA preseason with an overall record of 2-2.

Memory Lane: Berry

This photograph was taken in July of 2012.

Quintin Berry played for the Detroit Tigers during the 2012 season.  Berry was known for his incredible speed, and his unbelievable diving catches in the outfield.  I was at a Tigers game to see one of those catches in July of 2012.  Berry also found early success as a hitter with the Tigers, but Berry struggled at the plate during the 2012 World Series against the San Francisco Giants.  Quintin Berry was designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers in 2013.
Quintin Berry played for several MLB (Major League Baseball) organizations, but Berry spent a lot of time in the Minor League.  Quintin Berry won a World Series ring with the Boston Red Sox in 2013.  Quintin Berry currently works for the Milwaukee Brewers organization as an Outfield and Base Running Coordinator in their Minor League system.
