Tigers 5-0 Guardians

     On Sunday, May 25th, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 5-0 at Comerica Park.  Tigers Pitcher #29 Tarik Skubal pitched a complete game shutout and only allowed 2 hits against the Cleveland Guardians.  Tigers Utility Player #39 Zach McKinstry hit a 2-run home run in the 4th inning.  Tigers Second Baseman #25 Gleyber Torres, and Tigers Infielder #77 Andy Ibanez each added an RBI in the 4th inning.  Andy Ibanez also scored in the 4th inning on a throwing error.

     The Detroit Tigers are currently in 1st place in the AL Central standings with an overall record of 52-32.  The Tigers are 5-5 in their last ten games.  The Cleveland Guardians are currently in 2nd place in the AL Central standings with an overall record of 40-41.  The Guardians are 4-6 in their last ten games.

Clemens In Philadelphia

     Former Detroit Tigers Infielder #2 Kody Clemens is currently playing in his 3rd season with the Philadelphia Phillies organization.  Clemens played 56 games (mostly at Third Base) for the Detroit Tigers in 2022.  The Detroit Tigers selected Kody Clemens in the 3rd round (79th overall pick) of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.  Cody Clemens grew up in Houston, Texas. 

     Kody Clemens spent much of the last two seasons in Triple-A with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.  Last season Clemens batted .219 with 5 home runs, and 18 RBI in 43 games played with the Philadelphia Phillies.  In 2023 Clemens batted .230 with 4 home runs, and 13 RBI in 47 games played with the Phillies.  Kody Clemens made the opening day roster for the Philadelphia Phillies this season.

Maton In Chicago

 

     Former Detroit Tigers Utility Player #0 Nick Maton recently signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox.  Maton played for the Detroit Tigers (mostly at Third Base) in 2023.  The Philadelphia Phillies selected Nick Maton in the 7th round (203rd overall pick) of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.  Nick Maton grew up in Chatham, Illinois. 

     Nick Maton spent much of the 2024 season in the minor league system with the Norfolk Tides.  Maton batted .258 with 16 home runs, and 57 RBI in 91 minor league games played last season.  The Norfolk Tides are the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.  Former Tigers Short Stop Niko Goodrum also played last season with the Norfolk Tides.

Goodrum in San Diego

 

     Former Detroit Tigers Utility Player #0 Niko Goodrum recently signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres.  Goodrum played (mostly at Shortstop) for the Detroit Tigers from 2018-2021.  The Minnesota Twins selected Niko Goodrum in the 2nd round (71st overall pick) of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.  Niko Goodrum is from Atlanta, Georgia. 

     Niko Goodrum spent much of the 2024 season in the minor league system with three different ball clubs.  Goodrum batted .284 with 7 homeruns, and 44 RBI in 60 minor league games played last season.  Niko Goodrum spent most of the 2024 season playing for the Norfolk Tides.  The Norfolk Tides are a Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

Boyd In Cleveland

 

     The Cleveland Guardians recently signed Pitcher #16 Matthew Boyd to a one-year contract.  Matthew Boyd played for the Detroit Tigers from 2015-2021, and again in 2023.  The Toronto Blue Jays selected Matthew Boyd in the 6th round (175th overall pick) of the 2013 MLB Draft.  Matthew Boyd grew up in the state of Washington. 

     The Cleveland Guardians are currently in 1st place in the AL Central standings with an overall record of 54-31.  Some of the players on the Guardians active roster include Pitcher #48 Emmanuel Clase, Catcher #27 Austin Hedges, Outfielder #38 Steven Kwan, Pitcher #39 Ben Lively, Catcher #23 Bo Naylor, Infielder #22 Josh Naylor, and Infielder #11 Jose Ramirez.  Pitcher #57 Shane Bieber is currently on the 60-day injured list.  Pitcher #16 Matthew Boyd is currently on the 15-day injured list.

We checked out the USA NTDP U-18 Team in January.
