Driven To Win

     "Driven to win: Racing in America presented by General Motors" is an exhibit currently taking place at the Henry Ford Museum.  The display features 22 race cars spanning 125 years of auto racing.  The exhibit covers Drag Racing, Stock Car Racing, Indy Car Series, and much more.  The Henry Ford Museum is located at 20900 Oakwood Blvd, in Dearborn.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs of "Driven to win: Racing in America presented by General Motors".

Gold In Grand Rapids




     The Grand Rapids Gold will compete in the 2021-2022 NBA G-League season as an affiliate of the Denver Nuggets.  The Gold were formerly known as the Grand Rapids Drive, and an affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.  The Grand Rapids Gold roster has not been unveiled yet, but the 2021 Denver Nuggets Summer League roster could provide some clues for who makes the team.  The Grand Rapids Gold is scheduled to play their home games at DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

-  Former Detroit Pistons All-Star Ben Wallace is the President of the Grand Rapids Gold.  


-  Ben Wallace is also a minority owner of the Grand Rapids Gold.


-  Former NBA star Jason Terry is the Head Coach of the Grand Rapids Gold. 


-  Some of the rookies on the 2021 Denver Nuggets Summer League roster included Giorgi Bezhanishvili (Illinois), Chudier Bile (Georgetown), and Matur Maker (Zlatorog Lasko).  


-  Bol Bol, Semaj Christon, and Marcus Howard were also on the 2021 Denver Nuggets Summer League roster. 


-  Bol Bol is the son of former NBA star Manute Bol. 


-  The new NBA G-League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons is the Motor City Cruise.

Taylor In Williamsport

 



     Taylor North Little League is representing the state of Michigan, and the Great Lakes Region in the 2021 Little League World Series.  Taylor North Little League is scheduled to play today at 3:00 p.m. against Martin County North Little League (Palm City, Florida) in their first game of the 2021 Little League World Series.  Today's game will be broadcast live on ESPN.  All 2021 Little League World Series games can be seen live on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2.  The Little League World Series is played in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

-  Taylor North Little League has a home field located at 6750 Pardee Road, in Taylor, Michigan.


-  Taylor North Little League defeated Roosevelt Park Little League (Muskegon) 9-2 to win the Michigan Little League State Championship. 


-  Taylor North Little League defeated Hamilton West Side Little League (Hamilton, Ohio) 9-1 to win the Little League Great Lakes Regional Championship.


-  The 2021 Little League World Series Championship Game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 29th, at 3:00 p.m.  The game will be broadcast live on ABC.  


-  The 2021 Little League World Series only features teams from the United States.

Will Pittman Make The Cut?




     #57 Anthony Pittman is trying to make the Detroit Lions 53 man active roster as a linebacker for the 2021-2022 NFL (National Football League) season.  Pittman spent much of the last two seasons on the Lions practice squad, but Pittman was activated for one Lions regular season game in 2019.  Anthony Pittman played his college football career at Wayne State University.  Pittman also played high school football at Birmingham Groves High School.  Anthony Pittman went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Utica 4-4 Eastside

     On Friday, August 13th, the Utica Unicorns tied the Eastside Diamond Hoppers 4-4 after 9 innings.  The conclusion of the game is supposed to resume on a later date.  The Utica Unicorns are currently in 1st place in the USPBL (United Shore Professional Baseball League) East Division standings with an overall record of 19-11.  The Eastside Diamond Hoppers are currently in 2nd place in the USPBL East Division standings with an overall record of 14-13.

XFC On YouTube

 



     The XFC (Xtreme Fighting Championships) YouTube channel currently features 45 videos for fans of MMA (mixed martial arts).  Some of the videos on the XFC YouTube channel include "Free Fight: Clay French vs Thiago Meller @ XFCi 1 - February 8th, 2014 | Sao Paulo, Brazil", "Michigan XFC tryout recap!", and "#XFC43 Prelims (Full) - November 11th 2020 | Live from the Historic Tabernacle Atlanta Georgia".  

     XFC 45 took place on Friday, August 6th, at the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids.  The card featured several fighters from the state of Michigan including Austin Bashi, Daron Cruikshank, and Bobby Nash.  XFC 45 was broadcast live on FS2.  

     Many of the fighters in XFC have competed in other organizations including CES MMA (Classic Entertainment & Sports), and UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship).  Some of the competitors in the XFC include Jessica Aguilar (Mexico), Guilherme Faria (Brazil), Kurt Holobaugh (Louisiana), and Andre Soukhamthath (Florida).

     Woodward Sports Network has an excellent sports blog that covers many of our local teams including the Lions, Pistons, Spartans, Tigers, and Wolverines.  Woodward Sports Network also has Podcasts on their website, and videos on their YouTube channel.  "Baligian & Bell Show" features local media personality Sean Baligian, and former Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell.  Some of the writers for Woodward Sports Network include Terry Foster, Jeff Iafrate, Andrew Jonna, Ben Sassin, and Kory Woods.

Nye Wins Silver

 



     Katherine Nye won a silver medal in Weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.  Nye's silver medal came in the Women's light heavyweight classification (76 kg) on Sunday, August 1st.  Katherine Nye attended college at Oakland University, and Nye also went to high school at Rochester Adams High School.  Katherine Nye currently resides in Berkley, Michigan.

Chidester Wins Silver

 



     Catcher Amanda Chidester played a pivotal roll in helping the USA Softball Team earn a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.  Chidester hit a walk-off two-run double against Australia in the semifinal.  Team USA lost to Japan 2-0 in the gold medal final on Tuesday, July 27th.  Amanda Chidester played college softball at the University of Michigan.  Chidester also played high school softball at St. Frances Cabrini High School.  Amanda Chidester grew up in Allen Park, Michigan.

Wahoos 25-18 Lah-De-Dahs

     On Sunday, August 1st, the Wahoo Base Ball Club of Royal Oak (in gray) defeated the Greenfield Village Lah-De-Dahs Base Ball Club (in red) 25-18 in a Vintage Base Ball match that was played at Greenfield Village in Dearborn.  Vintage Base Ball, or Historic Base Ball is played by the rules of 1867.  Sunday's game was played at Walnut Grove Field.  Greenfield Village is located at 20900 Oakwood Blvd, in Dearborn.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs of Vintage Base Ball in Dearborn.
