USHL News: April 2022



The USA NTDP did not qualify for the 2022 USHL Playoffs.





     The Muskegon Lumberjacks will face the Dubuque Fighting Saints on the road this Friday in Game 1 of the 2022 USHL (United States Hockey League) Eastern Conference Semifinals.  The Lumberjacks swept the Cedar Rapids Roughriders 2-0 (in a best of three game series) in the first round of the 2022 USHL Playoffs.  The Dubuque Fighting Saints earned a bye in the first round of the 2022 USHL Playoffs.  

     The Dubuque Fighting Saints finished the 2021-2022 USHL regular season in 2nd place in the USHL Eastern Conference standings with 86 points, and an overall record of 40-16-3-3 (3 overtime losses, and 3 shootout losses).  The Muskegon Lumberjacks finished the 2021-2022 USHL regular season in 3rd place in the USHL Eastern Conference standings with 72 points, and an overall record of 33-23-3-3 (3 overtime losses, and 3 shootout losses).  

     The Chicago Steel finished the 2021-2022 USHL regular season in 1st place in the USHL Eastern Conference standings with 88 points and an overall record of 39-13-9-1 (9 overtime losses, and 1 shootout loss).  The USA NTDP (National Team Development Program) failed to qualify for the 2022 USHL Playoffs.  Team USA finished the 2021-2022 USHL regular season in 7th place in the 2021-2022 USHL Eastern Conference standings with 60 points, and an overall record of 27-29-5-1 (5 overtime losses, and 1 shootout loss). 

     The Tri-City Storm finished the 2021-2022 USHL regular season in 1st place in the USHL Western Conference standings with 98 points, and an overall record of 47-11-3-1 (3 overtime losses, and 1 shootout loss).  The Storm will host the Omaha Lancers on Saturday in Game 1 of the USHL Western Conference Semifinals.  The Sioux City Musketeers will also host the Waterloo Black Hawks on Saturday in Game 1 of the USHL Western Conference Semifinals.  

     Tri-City Storm Forward #13 Jeremy Wilmer lead the USHL this season in points, and in assists.  Wilmer accumulated 25 goals, 73 assists, and 98 points in 60 games played this season.  Tri-City Storm Defenseman #41 Mitchell Miller, and Sioux City Musketeers Forward #27 Ben Steeves both lead the USHL this season in goals.  Miller compiled 39 goals, 44 assists, and 83 points in 60 games played this season.  Steeves produced 39 goals, 28 assists, and 67 points in 60 games played this season. 

     Muskegon Lumberjacks Forward #28 Quinn Hutson lead the team this season in goals, and in points.  Hutson accumulated 33 goals, 40 assists, and 73 points in 59 games played this season.  Team USA Forward #3 Isaac Howard lead the team in points this season against USHL competition.  Howard compiled 11 goals, 26 assists, and 37 points in 27 games played this season.  Team USA Forward #19 Cutter Gauthier lead the team in goals this season against USHL competition.  Gauthier produced 19 goals, 9 assists, and 28 points in 22 games played this season.

Adrian Hockey News

 



     On Saturday, March 26th, the Adrian College Men's hockey team defeated the SUNY Geneseo Knights (State University of New York at Geneseo) 5-2 to win the 2022 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division III Men's Ice Hockey National Championship.  It was the first NCAA Championship in the history of the Adrian Bulldogs Men's hockey program.  

     The Adrian College Men's hockey team finished the 2021-2022 season with an overall record of 31-1.  The Bulldogs compete in the NCHA (Northern Collegiate Hockey Association) against eight other schools.  On Saturday, March 5th, the Adrian College Bulldogs defeated the St. Norbert College Green Knights 12-3 to win the 2022 NCHA Harris Cup (2022 NCHA Tournament Championship).

     Bulldogs Forward #16 Alessio Luciani lead the team in points this season.  Luciani accumulated 17 goals, 31 assists, and 48 points in 30 games played this season.  Bulldogs Forward #49 Ty Enns lead the team in goals.  Enns compiled 20 goals, 25 assists, and 45 points in 31 games played this season.  Bulldogs Forward #9 Sam Ruffin produced 19 goals, 28 assists, and 47 points in 30 games played this season.

-  The 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey National Championship was played at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York.


-  The Adrian Bulldogs only loss of the season came on the road on opening night against the Utica University Pioneers 3-2 in overtime.  


-  Adam Krug is the Head Coach of the Adrian College Men's hockey team. 


-  Bulldogs Goaltender #32 Cameron Gray recently signed with the Fort Wayne Komets.  The Komets compete in the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League). 


-  Bulldogs Forward #21 Rex Moe recently signed with the Pensacola Ice Flyers.  The Ice Flyers compete in the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League).  


-  On Friday, November 5th, 2021, the USA NTDP U-18 Team defeated the Adrian Bulldogs 4-3 in an exhibition game in Plymouth.

Firebirds News: April 2022




     The Flint Firebirds will kick off the 2022 OHL (Ontario Hockey League) Playoffs at home on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in a best of seven game series against the Owen Sound Attack.  The Flint Firebirds finished the 2021-2022 OHL season in 3rd place in the OHL Western Conference standings with 89 points, and an overall record of 42-21-1-4 (1 overtime loss, and 4 shootout losses).  The Owen Sound Attack finished the 2021-2022 OHL season in 6th place in the OHL Western Conference standings with 76 points, and an overall record of 34-26-5-3 (5 overtime losses, and 3 shootout losses).  

      Flint Firebirds Left Winger #78 Brennan Othmann lead the team this season in goals, in assists, and in points.  Othmann accumulated 50 goals, 47 assists, and 97 points in 66 games played this season.  Brennan Othmann was selected by the New York Rangers with the 16th overall pick in the 2021 NHL (National Hockey League) Entry Draft.  Othmann is from Pickering, Ontario.  

     Owen Sound Attack Center #7 Deni Goure lead the team in points this season.  Goure compiled 24 goals, 39 assists, and 63 points in 68 games played this season.  Deni Goure went undrafted in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.  Three players lead the Attack in goals this season with 30 including Center #39 Colby Barlow, Right Winger #29 Ethan Burroughs, and Center #11 Cedrick Guindon.

     The Hamilton Bulldogs finished the 2021-2022 OHL regular season in 1st place in the OHL Eastern Conference standings with 107 points, and an overall record of 51-12-3-2 (3 overtime losses, and 2 shootout losses).  The Windsor Spitfires finished the 2021-2022 OHL season in 1st place in the OHL Western Conference standings with 95 points, and an overall record of 44-17-4-3 (4 overtime losses, and 3 shootout losses).  

     Windsor Spitfires Center #55 Wyatt Johnston lead the OHL this season in points.  Johnston accumulated 46 goals, 78 assists, and 124 points in 68 games played this season.  London Knights Right Winger #14 Luke Evangelista lead the OHL this season in goals.  Evangelista compiled 55 goals, 56 assists, and 111 points in 62 games played this season.  Kingston Frontenacs Right Winger #27 Lucas Edmonds lead the OHL this season in assists.  Edmonds produced 34 goals, 79 assists, and 113 points in 68 games played this season.  Flint Firebirds Goaltender #37 Luke Cavallin lead the OHL in wins this season with 36.

Port Huron Prowlers On YouTube

 



     The Port Huron Prowlers YouTube channel currently features 42 videos for fans of minor league hockey.  The Port Huron Prowlers compete in the FPHL (Federal Prospects Hockey League) against six other teams including the Binghamton Black Bears, the Carolina Thunderbirds, the Columbus River Dragons, the Danbury Hat Tricks, the Delaware Thunder, and the Watertown Wolves.  The Port Huron Prowlers YouTube channel currently has 596 subscribers.

     The Port Huron Prowlers YouTube channel includes videos of full games, a training camp video from before this season, and interviews with players like Austin Fetterly, and Casey Harris.  The Port Huron Prowlers joined YouTube in March of 2021.

     The Port Huron Prowlers open up the 2022 FPHL Playoffs at home tonight at 7:00 p.m. against the Carolina Thunderbirds in a best of three game series.  The two teams are scheduled to meet again tomorrow night in North Carolina for the second game of the series.  If necessary, the third game of the series will also take place in North Carolina.

     The Port Huron Prowlers finished the 2021-2022 FPHL regular season in 6th place in the FPHL standings with 56 points, and an overall record of 18-32-4 (4 overtime losses).  The Prowlers play their home games at McMorran Arena located at 701 McMorran Blvd, in Port Huron, Michigan.  The Prowlers first round playoff games against the Carolina Thunderbirds can be seen live on the Port Huron Prowlers YouTube channel.  

     The Carolina Thunderbirds finished the 2021-2022 FPHL regular season in 5th place in the FPHL standings with 92 points, and an overall record of 31-26-5 (5 overtime losses).  The Thunderbirds play their home games at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex in North Carolina.  The Carolina Thunderbirds first round playoff games against the Port Huron Prowlers can be seen live on the Carolina Thunderbirds TV YouTube channel.

     Port Huron Prowlers Forward #92 Dalton Jay lead the team this season in points, in goals, and in assists.  Dalton Jay accumulated 34 goals, 37 assists, and 71 points in 51 games played this season.  Prowlers Forward, and Head Coach #51 Matt Graham compiled 19 goals, 36 assists, and 55 points in 54 games played this season.  Prowlers Defenseman, and Assistant Coach #25 Alex Johnson produced 20 goals, 29 assists, and 49 points in 54 games played this season.

Ohio 12-4 EMU

     On Saturday, April 16th, the Ohio University baseball team defeated the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 12-4 in the first game of a doubleheader.  The Bobcats also earned a 14-8 victory over the Eagles later that day in the second game of the doubleheader.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs from the first game of the doubleheader played on Saturday.

     The Ohio Bobcats also defeated the EMU Eagles 12-8 in the series opener on Friday.  The Eastern Michigan University Eagles were able to earn a 3-1 victory over the Bobcats in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.  All four games this past weekend were played at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Michigan. 

     The Eastern Michigan University Eagles are currently in 5th place in the MAC (Mid-American Conference) standings with a conference record of 10-10, and an overall record of 14-19.  The Ohio University Bobcats are currently in 4th place in the MAC standings with a conference record of 10-10, and an overall record of 16-16.

OmegaBall News




     OmegaBall is a relatively new sport that tries to revolutionize the game of soccer.  The OmegaBall pitch is circular, and each game features three teams of five players that compete against each other at the same time.  OmegaBall games can become chaotic when a player is defended by players from different teams that aren't necessarily working together.  OmegaBall games can be fast paced, and high scoring.  There are no offsides, and there are no throw-ins.  OmegaBall can be seen on FS2, and on the OmegaBall YouTube channel.   

     The 2022 OmegaBall Championships recently took place at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California.  Team Smoke defeated Team Fusion, and Team Volume to win the 2022 Men's OmegaBall Championship.  Team Smoke consisted of (Goalkeeper) Evan Brown, Todd Castillo, Kenneth Lee, Gabriel Mejia, and Daniel Santos.  The final score was Team Smoke 12 - Team Fusion - 9 - Team Volume - 4.  

     Orange Crush defeated Team Diesel, and Team Drift to win the 2022 Women's OmegaBall Championship.  Orange Crush consisted of Desarae Felix, Laila Gray, (Goalkeeper) Angela Longo, Natalie Oronoz, and Ashley Webb.  The final score was Orange Crush 11 - Team Diesel - 8 - Team Drift - 2.

PPA News: April 2022

 



     Pickleball is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing sports in our country partly because the game allows various age groups to competitively play against one another.  Pickleball is a low impact paddle sport with a smaller court than a game like tennis.  The PPA (Professional Pickleball Association) is currently the highest level of competitive pickleball in the World.

     The one name in professional pickleball that you need to know is Ben Johns.  At 22 years old, Ben Johns is currently ranked #1 in the Professional Pickleball Association in Men's Singles, in Men's Doubles, and in Mixed Doubles.  Collin Johns is Ben's older brother that also competes on the PPA Tour.  At 28 years old, Collin previously competed on the ATP Tour (Association of Tennis Professionals) for several years before joining the PPA Tour. 

     The next PPA Tour event is the Invisalign North Carlina Open scheduled for May 5th - May 8th in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The Acrytech Atlanta Open is scheduled for May 18th - May 22nd at the Life Time Fitness located in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.  Live, and archived PPA Tour events can be seen on FS2, CN900, and on the PPA Tour - Professional Pickleball Association YouTube channel.

Concordia 6-5 Cornerstone

     On Monday, April 11th, the Concordia University baseball team defeated the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles 6-5 in the second game of a doubleheader.  The Cardinals also earned a 7-1 victory over the Golden Eagles earlier that day in the first game of the doubleheader.  Cardinals Utility Player #8 Joe Jones scored the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in the second game of the doubleheader.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs from the second game of the doubleheader played on Monday.   

     The Concordia University baseball team is currently in 5th place in the WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) standings with a conference record of 8-6, and an overall record of 26-14.  The Cardinals are currently riding a three-game winning streak.  The Cornerstone University baseball team is currently in 6th place in the WHAC standings with a conference record of 6-5, and an overall record of 14-16.

     Football Morning In America is an excellent sports blog by Peter King that can be found on the Pro Football Talk website operated by NBC Sports.  Peter King breaks down the top stories in the NFL (National Football League) much like he did at Sports Illustrated on his former sports blog known as Monday Morning Quarterback.  Football Morning In America is frequently updated with new articles, and videos.

WMU 10-5 EMU

     On Saturday, April 2nd, the Western Michigan University baseball team defeated the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 10-5 in the second game of a doubleheader.  The Eagles earned a 3-2 win over the Broncos earlier on Saturday in the first game of the doubleheader.  The Eagles also picked up a 7-4 victory over the Broncos on Friday, but the Broncos defeated the Eagles 6-4 on Sunday.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs from the second game of the doubleheader played on Saturday.  

     The Eastern Michigan University Eagles are currently in 4th place in the MAC (Mid-American Conference) standings with a conference record of 6-6, and an overall record of 10-15.  The Western Michigan University Broncos are currently in 8th place in the MAC standings with a conference record of 4-6, and an overall record of 6-17.

On Saturday, April 2nd, the WMU Broncos defeated the EMU Eagles 10-5.





The Eagles earned a 3-2 win over the Broncos earlier on Saturday afternoon.





The EMU Eagles also picked up a 7-4 victory over the WMU Broncos on Friday, April 1st.





The WMU Broncos defeated the EMU Eagles 6-4 on Sunday, April 3rd.





The EMU Eagles currently have an overall record of 10-15.  The Eagles are 6-6 in the MAC.





The WMU Broncos currently have an overall record of 6-17.  The Broncos are 4-6 in the MAC.

-  Broncos Pitcher #10 Hayden Berg earned the win in the second game on Saturday.  Berg's record this season is 2-2.


-  Eagles Pitcher #33 Thomas House was charged with the loss in the second game on Saturday.  House's record this season is 1-3.


-  Eagles Outfielder #41 Matt Kirk is currently batting .356 with 8 home runs, and 23 runs batted in.


-  Billy Gernon is the Head Coach of the Western Michigan University baseball team. 


-  Eric Roof is the Head Coach of the Eastern Michigan University baseball team.
