Alpena 8 - Detroit 5





On Sunday, the Alpena Flyers celebrated an 8-5 victory over the Detroit Fighting Irish.









     On Sunday afternoon, the Alpena Flyers earned a 8-5 road win at the Ice Box in Brownstown.  The Detroit Fighting Irish are playing all of their home games at the Ice Box this season, and the Fighting Irish are currently in 3rd place in the MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League) with 10 points, and an overall record of 5-3.

Lady Ocelots Improve To 10-1-1





On Saturday, the Schoolcraft College women's soccer team (in white) defeated Lake Michigan College 5-4. 










     On Saturday afternoon, the Schoolcraft College women's soccer team defeated the Lake Michigan Red Hawks 5-4.  The score was tied at 4 late in the game, but the Ocelots scored with 3:16 left in the contest. Schoolcraft is currently ranked 15th in the Country, and the lady Ocelots have compiled an impressive 10-1-1 overall record.  The lady Red Hawks have an overall record of 5-9-1.
     Lake Michigan College, and Schoolcraft College both compete in the MCCAA (Michigan Community College Athletic Association).  The MCCAA is a Region XII Division of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association).  Click on the links below for more information about the MCCAA, or the NJCAA,

Ocelots Win 4-3 in 2 OT





On Saturday afternoon, Schoolcraft College (in yellow) defeated Lake Michigan College 4-3 in double overtime.








     On Saturday afternoon, the Schoolcraft College soccer team defeated the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks 4-3 in double overtime.  Schoolcraft has compiled an impressive 15-2 overall record, and the Ocelots are currently ranked 9th in the Nation.  The Lake Michigan Red Hawks currently have an overall record of 9-10-1.
     The Ocelots, and Red Hawks both compete in the MCCAA (Michigan Community College Athletic Association).  The MCCAA is a Region XII Division of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association).

#8 Jon Quintana is one of three Ocelots from Venezuela.   




The 2014 soccer season is winding down.  The National Championship game will be played in Arizona on November 23rd.

Hounds 4 - Ice Dogs 1





On Friday night, the Traverse City Hounds (in white) defeated the Michigan Ice Dogs 4-1.










     The Traverse City Hounds brought their undefeated record into the Farmington Hills Ice Arena on Friday night, and left with a 4-1 victory.  The Hounds also picked up a 5-2 win on Saturday evening over the Ice Dogs. The Traverse City Hounds, and the Michigan Ice Dogs both compete against each other in the MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League).  The Michigan Ice Dogs play all of their home games at the Farmington Ice Arena located at 35500 8 Mile Road.

Plymouth 5 - Mississauga 0





On Friday night, the Plymouth Whalers (in white) defeated the Mississauga Steelheads (in blue) 5-0. 










     The Plymouth Whalers earned a 5-0 shutout victory over the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday night, despite playing without several key players due to suspensions, and injuries.  #6 Mitch Jones is serving an eight game suspension, #32 Gianluca Curcuruto is serving a 12 game suspension, and #2 Alex Peters was out with a lower body injury.  The Whalers outshot the Steelheads 35-16, and goaltender #39 Alex Nedlejkovic earned his 3rd shutout of the season.
     Rookie center #41 Will Bitten (from Gloucester, Michigan) scored 2 goals for Plymouth on Friday night.  Left winger #82 Sonny Milano contributed 3 assists in his first game in a Plymouth Whaler uniform.  #22 Matt Mistele scored two goals, and #90 Mathew Campagna scored his 5th goal of the season.

Oakland 10 - EMU 5





On Sunday, Oakland University (in black) defeated Eastern Michigan University (in green) 10-5.










     On Sunday afternoon, the Oakland University hockey team earned a 10-5 road victory over the Eastern Michigan University Eagles. The game was played at the Taylor Sportsplex, and Oakland University picked up the win, despite being outshot 41-32 by the Eagles.  Both teams play in Division 1 of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association), and both clubs compete against each other in the GLCHL (Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League). The Eagles outshot the Golden Grizzlies 41-32.  The two teams combined to score 15 goals.





The Golden Grizzlies improved their overall record to 5-6.  The Eagles dropped to 2-7 overall.

Bruins 6 - Flyers 5





On Saturday night, the Berkley Bruins (in black, and yellow) defeated the Alpena Flyers 6-5 at the Berkley Ice Arena.










      On Saturday night, the Berkley Bruins defeated the Alpena Flyers 6-5 at the Berkley Ice Arena.  Both teams compete against each other in the MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League). The Bruins swept the the 3 game weekend series against the Flyers, and all 3 games were won by the score of 6-5.  Sunday's victory was earned in a shootout.  The Berkley Bruins play all of their home games at the Berkley Ice Arena which is located at 2300 Robina Avenue, in Berkley.
     The MWJHL is constantly growing, and the league consists of 8 teams this season.  The MC Monarchs are the local expansion team, and the Decatur Blaze have replaced the Bloomington Jr. Blaze.  The Alpena Street Cats have become the Alpena Flyers, and 7 of the 8 teams in the MWJHL are from the state of Michigan. The Alpena Flyers were known as the Street Cats last season.  The Flyers name is an off the ice improvement.





#1 Brent Gaddy was in net for the Bruins.  Gaddy made several big saves against the Flyers over the weekend.





The Berkley Bruins defeated the Alpena Flyers 6-5 in all 3 games over the weekend.  All 3 games were played in Berkley.
