CPL On FS2

 



      2022 CPL (Canadian Premier League) games can be seen live on FS2 (Fox Sports Two).  The next live broadcast on FS2 features Forge FC at FC Edmonton scheduled for Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m.  "CPL Week In Review" can also be seen on FS2.  Check your local listings.

     The 2022 Canadian Premier League season features 8 teams including Atletico Ottawa (Ottawa), Cavalry FC (Calgary), FC Edmonton (Edmonton), Forge FC (Hamilton), HFX Wanderers FC (Halifax), Pacific FC (Vancouver Island), Valour FC (Winnipeg), and York United FC (Greater Toronto Area).  The CPL is adding Vancouver (Greater Vancouver) for the 2023 season.  

     Pacific FC is currently in 1st place in the 2022 Canadian Premier League standings with 17 points, and an overall record of 5-1-2 (2 draws).  Cavalry FC is currently in 2nd place in the 2022 CPL standings with 11 points, and an overall record of 3-2-2 (2 draws).  Atletico Ottawa also currently has 11 points, and an overall record of 3-2-2 (2 draws).  

     Pacific FC Forward #9 Alejandro Diaz Liceaga currently leads the CPL in goals this season with 5.  Pacific FC Forward #10 Marco Bustos currently leads the CPL in assists this season with 4.  FC Edmonton Goalkeeper #1 Andreas Raido Karuks Vaikla currently leads the CPL in saves this season with 25.

Panthers Release Patterson




     On Wednesday, May 25th, the Michigan Panthers released Quarterback Shea Patterson.  The New Orleans Breakers claimed Patterson off waivers on the same day.  Both teams compete in the USFL (United States Football League).  The Panthers will play the Breakers tomorrow night on FS1 at 9:00 p.m. in Birmingham, Alabama.  Shea Patterson played Quarterback for the University of Michigan in 2018, and in 2019.  The Michigan Panthers selected Shea Patterson with the #1 overall pick in the 2022 USFL Draft. 

     The Michigan Panthers are currently in 3rd place in the USFL North Division standings with an overall record of 1-5.  The New Orlean Breakers are currently in 2nd place in the USFL South Division standings with an overall record of 4-2.  There are 8 teams competing in the 2022 USFL season. 

     The Michigan Panthers still have three Quarterbacks on their roster including #22 Eric Barriere (Eastern Washington), #12 Paxton Lynch (Memphis), and #0 Josh Love (San Jose State).  The New Orleans Breakers have two other Quarterbacks on their roster including #10 Kyle Sloter (Northern Colorado), and #11 Zach Smith (Tulsa).  

     Shea Patterson has completed 96 of 161 passing attempts for 973 yards, and 4 touchdowns this season.  Patterson has also rushed for 2 touchdowns this season.  Shea Patterson has thrown 5 interceptions, and was also sacked 13 times in 6 games played. 

     The Michigan Panthers roster currently features three players that played college football locally including Linebacker #0 Taiwan Jones (Michigan State), Linebacker #44 Terry Myrick (Eastern Michigan), and Defensive Tackle #92 Kyshonn Tyson (Grand Valley State).

SFL In Detroit

 



     The SFL (Simulation Football League) recently announced that majority owner Colin Northrup, and the Northrup family are moving the St. Louis Gladiators to Detroit for the upcoming SFL 19th Season.  The Gladiators will now be known as the Motor City V8's.  The team colors are going to be blue, orange, and gray.  The Motor City V8's will play their home games at Bank Michigan Stadium located in a simulated downtown Detroit.  Andrew O'Reilly is the Head Coach of the Motor City V8's.  O'Reilly is also a minority owner of the Motor City V8's.   

     The St. Louis Gladiators finished the SFL 18th regular season in 3rd place in the SFL East Division with an overall record of 5-7.  The Gladiators finished 3 games out of first place in the SFL East Division.  St. Louis did not qualify for the SFL 18th Season Playoffs.  There were 24 teams that competed in the SFL 18th Season.  Simulation Football League games can be seen on Next Level Sports, and on the Simulationfl YouTube channel.  

     Gladiators Quarterback #12 Christian Brown completed 349 of 496 passing attempts for 3,370 yards, and 15 touchdowns last season.  Brown also threw 32 interceptions, and was sacked 28 times in 12 games played.  Gladiators Running Back #33 Kairo Martinez carried the ball 202 times for 836 yards, and 10 rushing touchdowns last season.  Martinez also accumulated 4 receiving touchdowns in 12 games played.

Tigers Win On YouTube

 



     The Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-2 in yesterday's "MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube".  Tigers Third Baseman #46 Jeimer Candelario hit a go-ahead two run home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.  Tigers Pitcher #55 Alex Lange (1-1) earned the win for Detroit.  Twins Pitcher #58 Trevor Megill (0-1) was charged with the loss for Minnesota.  Tigers Pitcher #37 Andrew Chafin picked up his first save of the season for Detroit.  Yesterday's game was played at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

     Tigers Infielder #30 Harold Castro was named "YouTube Player of the Game".  Castro went three for four with two solo home runs, and two runs batted in.  Tigers Pitcher #51 Rony Garcia got the start for Detroit.  Garcia was the twelfth different starting pitcher for the Tigers this season.  That's the most in Major League Baseball.  Twins Pitcher #37 Dylan Bundy got the start for Minnesota.  Scott Braun, and former Tigers First Baseman Carlos Pena called yesterday's "MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube".

     The Minnesota Twins are currently in 1st place in the AL Central standings with an overall record of 27-17.  The Twins were riding a six-game winning streak until yesterday's loss to the Tigers.  The Detroit Tigers are currently in 4th place in the AL Central standings with an overall record of 15-28.  The Tigers are currently eleven and a half games out of first place in the AL Central standings.

-  The Tigers signed Pitcher #37 Andrew Chafin late in the off-season. 


-  Tigers Manager A J Hinch put in #24 Miguel Cabrera to pinch hit for Harold Castro in the top of the ninth inning with the bases loaded.  Cabrera struck out looking on a controversial third strike that appeared to cross the plate below the strike zone. 


-  Tigers Infielder #30 Harold Castro is currently batting .301 with 3 home runs, and 8 runs batted in.  


-  Tigers Designated Hitter #24 Miguel Cabrera is currently batting .287 with 3 home runs, and 16 runs batted in. 


-  Rocco Baldelli is the Manager of the Minnesota Twins. 


-  The next "MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube" is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1st.  Coverage begins at 12:30 p.m.  The Cleveland Guardians will host the Kansas City Royals.

-  The Detroit Tigers were also featured last season in the "MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube".  The Tigers lost to the Los Angeles Angels 7-5 on Thursday, June 17th, 2021.  #25 Matt Manning made his MLB debut for the Tigers.  #17 Shohei Ohtani started for the Angels.  Ohtani earned the win, and Manning was charged with the loss.  #32 Raisel Iglesias picked up the save for Los Angeles.

LCFC 2-0 Bearings

     On Sunday, May 22nd, Livonia City FC defeated the West Michigan Bearings 2-0 at the Madonna University Athletic Complex located at 15090 Newburgh Road, in Livonia.  Amedeo Crovasce scored both goals for Livonia City FC.  Both teams compete in the Midwest Premier League East Conference.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs of Sunday's soccer match in Livonia.

     Livonia City FC is currently in 1st place in the Midwest Premier League East Conference standings with 4 points, and an overall record of 1-0-1 (1 draw).  The West Michigan Bearings are currently in 11th place in the Midwest Premier League East Conference standings with 0 points, and an overall record of 0-1.  There are 11 teams competing in the Midwest Premier League East Conference this season.  The Midwest Premier League also has a West Conference with 12 teams, and a South Conference with 4 teams.

Vultures 38-24 Glory

 



     On Saturday, May 14th, the Baltimore Vultures defeated the Lone Star Glory 38-24 to win the SFL (Simulation Football League) 18th Season Championship.  Vultures Halfback #21 Warren Murray was named MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the Championship Game.  Murray carried the ball 20 times for 130 yards, and 4 touchdowns.  Murray also accumulated 68 receiving yards.  The Baltimore Vultures have won three of the last four SFL Championships.  

     The Baltimore Vultures finished the SFL 18th regular season with an overall record of 10-2.  The Lone Star Glory finished the SFL 18th regular season with an overall record of 8-4.  There were 24 teams that competed in the 18th Season of the Simulation Football League.  Simulation Football League games can be seen on Next Level Sports, and on the Simulationfl YouTube channel.  Next Level Sports was formerly known as Eleven Sports Network.

CMU 10-4 EMU



On Saturday, May 14th, the CMU Chippewas defeated the EMU Eagles 10-4.




     On Saturday, May 14th, the Central Michigan University baseball team defeated the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 10-4 in the first game of a doubleheader.  The Chippewas also earned a 7-2 victory over the Eagles in the second game of the doubleheader.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs from the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday.  

     The Central Michigan University Chippewas beat the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 7-1 in the series opener on Friday.  The Chippewas also defeated the Eagles 8-3 in the series finale on Sunday.  All four games this past weekend were played at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti.  

     The Central Michigan University Chippewas are currently in 1st place in the MAC (Mid-American Conference) standings with a conference record of 28-6, and an overall record of 36-15.  The Chippewas are riding a five-game winning streak. The Eastern Michigan University Eagles are currently in 7th place in the MAC standings with a conference record of 15-21, and an overall record of 21-31.  The Eagles are riding a four-game losing streak.

Jason Pertile - Tigers vs. A's

On Thursday, May 12th, the Oakland Athletics defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-3.





The A's won three out of four games against the Tigers.


The Detroit Tigers are currently in 5th place in the AL Central standings.

Athletics 5-3 Tigers

     On Thursday, May 12th, the Oakland Athletics defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-3.  Athletics Outfielder #15 Seth Brown hit a two-run home run in the 8th inning to give Oakland the lead for good.  #33 A.J. Puk earned the win for Oakland, and #32 Michael Fulmer was charged with the loss for Detroit.  #56 Dany Jimenez picked up his sixth save of the season for the Athletics.  The A's won three out of four games against the Tigers during their weekday series at Comerica Park.

     Baseball Savant has an excellent sports blog for fans of baseball sabermetrics.  Baseball Savant includes articles, statistics, and a "Statcast Glossary" that explains the definitions of terms like "Exit Velocity", "Launch Angle", and "Spin Rate".  Some of the writers on Baseball Savant include David Adler, Thomas Harrigan, Sarah Langs, and Mike Petriello.   Baseball Savant is owned and operated by MLB Advanced Media (Major League Baseball).  Baseball Savant can be found via MLB.com.

     The 2022 SFC (Sport Fishing Championship) season can be seen live on CBSSN (CBS Sports Network), or on the Sport Fishing Championship website.  The 2022 Sport Fishing Championship season kicked off last week in Louisiana with the Louisiana Gulf Coast Billfish Classic.  The SFC resumed today through Saturday in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with the CNSD (Club Nautico Santo Domingo) White Marlin Tournament.  Sport Fishing Championship is scheduled to be shown live on CBSSN this Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

-  Sport Fishing Championship was founded in 2021 by Mark E. Neifeld. 


 -  Mark E. Neifeld is the CEO, and Commissioner of Sport Fishing Championship. 


-  Sport Fishing Championship is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

PitchCom Expalined

 



     PitchCom is a new technology that is being used this season by several MLB (Major League Baseball) teams.  The PitchCom device is a wearable, lightweight communication system that can be utilized by players (and coaches) to communicate with each other in a covert manner.    

    The PitchCom device can prevent opponents from stealing the signs while speeding up the pace of play.  MLB players do not have to use the PitchCom communication system.  PichCom is scheduled to be available in 2023 (at an affordable price) for colleges, high schools, and travel baseball teams.  John Hankins, and Craig Filicetti are the co-creators, and co-owners of PitchCom.

-  Some of the MLB teams that used PitchCom early this season include the Cincinatti Reds, the Cleveland Guardians, the Chicago White Sox, the Colorado Rockies, the Kansas City Royals, the New York Mets, the New York Yankees, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Toronto Blue Jays.


-  Some of the MLB teams that have recently embraced PitchCom include the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Washington Nationals.   


-  The Detroit Tigers are one of the few MLB teams that are currently not using PitchCom.

EMU 6-3 Bowling Green

     On Saturday, April 30th, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team defeated the Bowling Green State University Falcons 6-3 in the second game of a doubleheader.  The Falcons earned a 2-1 victory over the Eagles earlier on Saturday in the first game of the doubleheader.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs from the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday.  

     The Eastern Michigan University Eagles defeated the Bowling Green State University Falcons 6-5 in the series opener on Friday.  The Eagles also defeated the Falcons 19-4 in the series finale on Sunday.  The Eagles hit 8 home runs against the Falcons on Sunday.  All four games this past weekend were played at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Michigan. 

     The Eastern Michigan University Eagles are currently in 5th place in the MAC (Mid-American Conference) standings with a conference record of 13-15, and an overall record of 19-25.  The Bowling Green State University Falcons are currently in 10th place in the MAC standings with a conference record of 10-20, and an overall record of 13-28.

EMU defeated Bowling Green State University 6-3 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday.





The Falcons earned a 2-1 victory over the Eagles earlier in the first game of the doubleheader. 






The EMU Eagles currently have an overall record of 19-25.  The Eagles are 13-15 in the MAC.





The BGSU Falcons currently have an overall record of 13-28.  The Falcons are 10-20 in the MAC.

-  Eagles Pitcher #34 Zach Fruit earned the win in the second game on Saturday.  Fruit's record this season is 4-4.    


-  Falcons Pitcher #32 Levi Gazarek was charged with the loss in the second game on Saturday.  Gazarek is 0-2 this season.


-  Eagles Pitcher #35 Trevor House picked up the save in the second game on Saturday.  It was House's second save of the season.


-  Eagles Outfielder #41 Matt Kirk is currently batting .350 with 12 home runs, and 40 RBI (runs batted in). 


-  Eagles Infielder #26 Daniel Warkentin is currently batting .311 with 14 home runs, and 33 RBI.


-  Falcons Catcher #10 Kyle Gurney is currently batting .345 with 9 home runs, and 34 RBI.  Kyle Gurney played high school baseball at Dearborn Divine Child.


-  Eric Roof is the Head Coach of the Eastern Michigan University baseball team. 


-  Kyle Hallock is the Head Coach of the Bowling Green State University baseball team.

10 Year Anniversary



This was the first picture ever posted on the Mitten State Sports Report back on April 9th, 2012.
