A House Divided

Photograph was taken at Potbelly Sandwich Shop located at 42477 Ford Road, in Canton.

When you grow up in the State of Michigan you typically become a fan of either the University of Michigan Wolverines, or the Michigan State University Spartans.  A house divided refers to a home, or a family that includes fans of both teams.  You can usually throw out the team records when interstate rivals come together.  Many fans, and alumni find more satisfaction when the other team loses, then they do when their team wins.  The University of Michigan football team will host Michigan State University on Saturday, November 16th, 2019 (TBA).
The Mitten State also features several other interstate collegiate rivalries including Central Michigan University vs. Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University vs. Saginaw Valley State University, and Hillsdale College vs. Northwood University.  New rivalries will develop as several local colleges, and universities continue to expand their athletic programs to include the sport of football.

Hamilton Has LeFevour!

When I look at some of the backup quarterbacks that have seen time in the NFL (National Football League) this season, I can't believe that they're all better then Dan LeFevour!  At Central Michigan University, LeFevour broke several records, and lead the Chippewas to bowl wins in the Motor City Bowl in 2006, and the GMAC Bowl in 2010.  LeFevour was also named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) in both bowl game victories.  Although drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 6th round of the 2010 NFL Draft, LeFevour's career never took off in the NFL for whatever reason.  Lefevour also had a brief stint in Cincinnati with the Bengals (in 2010), before leaving the NFL for the CFL (Canadian Football League).
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL signed LeFevour at the beginning of last season, and the move paid off last week when LeFevour lead the Tiger-Cats to a 19-16 overtime win against the Montreal Alouettes.  LeFevour entered the game in the overtime period, and used his legs to find the endzone on a game winning (2 yard) touchdown run.  LeFevour has always been known as a dual threat at the quarterback position, which is one of the many reasons why I can't believe there isn't a spot for him in the NFL.  LeFevour is the only player in NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) history to have thrown for over 12,000 yards, and rushed for over 2,500 in a career.  The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will rely on Lefevour in some capacity in this Sunday's Eastern Final showdown against the Toronto Argonauts.  The winner will play in the 101st Grey Cup against the winner of the Western Final game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and the Calgary Stampeders.  LeFevour is currently the second leading rusher on the Tiger-Cats this season, and has rushed for 7 touchdowns.  Lefevour has also thrown 2 touchdowns this season for the Tiger-Cats.

CMU Without Zeigler and Zeigler

Trey Zeigler has officially transferred to the University of Pittsburg less than a month after his father was fired as the head coach of the CMU (Central Michigan University) men's basketball team.  Trey lead the Chippewas in scoring last season (15.8 points per game) in his Sophomore campaign, but the team finished 5-11 in the MAC (Mid American Conference) with an 11-21 overall record.  Trey will have to sit out next season but is expected to contribute to a talented Pitt lineup in the 2013-2014 season.  Pittsburg's men's basketball head coach Jamie Dixon was an assistant with Ernie Zeigler on Ben Howland's staff during Howland's reign as the head coach of the Pitt Panthers, and that may have been a factor in the decision.  Chippewas guards Austin Keel, and Austin McBroom have both expressed their interest in transferring after the firing of Ernie Zeigler, but neither player has yet to officially transfer from the CMU program.
The Chippewas announced last Tuesday in a press conference that former AP National Coach of the Year Keno Davis will take over the responsibility as the head coach of the CMU mens basketball team.  Davis received the award in 2008 while at Drake, but struggled as the head coach at Providence, and was fired after last season.  Davis becomes the 20th head coach in CMU team history.
