Memory Lane: Pudge
Memory Lane
Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez
Memory Lane
The Detroit Tigers were a struggling franchise in the 1990's, and through the turn of the century. The Tigers signed Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez for the 2004 season, and the team began to show signs of life. The Tigers reached the World Series in 2006 with Rodriguez behind the dish. Pudge was a big time free agent that lived up to the hype unlike the disappointing prior deals that the Tigers worked out with superstars like Juan Gonzalez, Hideo Nomo, and Dean Palmer. Ivan Rodriguez played in the MLB (Major League Baseball) All-Star Game as a Detroit Tiger in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. The Tigers traded Pudge to the New York Yankees in 2008 for relief Pitcher Kyle Farnsworth.
