     The 42nd Annual Plymouth Ice Festival took place last weekend in downtown Plymouth.  Dozens of ice sculptures were displayed at Kellogg Park, and in front of businesses throughout the downtown area.  The temperatures were down in the twenties at night, and up to the mid-forties during the day.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs from the 2024 Plymouth Ice Festival.  The pictures were taken on Monday, February 5th, one day after the event ended.

2023 Plymouth Ice Festival

     The 41st Annual Plymouth Ice Festival took place last weekend in downtown Plymouth.  About one hundred and fifty ice sculptures were displayed at Kellogg Park, and in front of businesses throughout the downtown area.  The temperature was in the single digits on Friday, and on Saturday morning.  It got above freezing for Saturday afternoon, and the temperatures were in the forties on Sunday.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs from the 2023 Plymouth Ice Festival.

2015 Plymouth Ice Fest

Tony Pertile, from the "Mitten State Sports Report", was in downtown Plymouth for the 2015 Plymouth Ice Festival.

     The 2015 Plymouth Ice Festival took place from January 9th through January 11th, and the Mitten State Sports Report was in downtown Plymouth to take in all of the action.  This years festival featured a Dueling chainsaw competition on Saturday, and college carving competitions throughout the weekend.   There was even a cross country skiing display.  The weather was ideal for the ice sculptures, and a few hundred thousand people are estimated to have attended this years festival.  Click on plymouthicefestival.com for more information about the Plymouth Ice Festival.  Click on www.downtownplymouth.org  for information about other events happening in Plymouth.

The ice sculptures were on display all weekend.  Visitors came at all hours to see the artwork.

The ice sculptures were lit up at night.

There was a Dueling chainsaw competition.  There were also college carving competitions throughout the weekend.

Ice Fest Recap!

The Plymouth Ice Festival took place last weekend, and Mother Nature did not cooperate!

     The Plymouth Ice Festival took place last weekend, and the experience was different depending on which day that you attended.  The Festival officially kicked off on Friday, but the weather was uncooperative from the get go.  There was rain, and temperatures reaching 40 degrees on Friday, followed by the same on Saturday.  By Sunday afternoon, the show seemed like it was already winding down, despite the large crowds that came to see the ice sculptures.  The temperature was 37 degrees on Sunday, but with the wind chill it was 29 degrees.  There were no heaters inside the warming tent, and there were long lines of people wrapped around Kellogg Park, making it almost impossible to see the art work without tripping over the person in front of you.  There was also a lot of unfinished art work throughout the park, and it appeared that many of the artists had completely given up on creating their ice sculptures.  There was a wood carver on sight, and his live carving was definitely a highlight of this years event.

Ice Carving in Plymouth!

The Plymouth Ice Festival is going on this weekend in downtown Plymouth!

     The Plymouth Ice Festival is currently underway in downtown Plymouth, and the spring like temperatures shouldn't interfere with the competitions, and events scheduled for this weekend.  It is currently 40 degrees, and raining, but the ice sculptures are surviving the weather, and the rain is adding a glistening effect to the artwork that has taken over Kellogg Park.  This is the 32nd year that the Ice Festival has come to Plymouth, and this years list of activities offers something for everyone.
     There are several ice carving competitions scheduled for this weekend including a "College Individual Carving Competition", a "College Team Carving Competition", and the always popular "Dueling Chainsaws Competition".  There are interactive ice sculptures, "Fire and Ice Towers", and there's even a cross-country skiing demonstration.  There will be over 20 local vendors selling food throughout the park, and inside the "DTE Energy Hot Spot Warming Tent".  EG Nicks will be hosing a "Party Lot" for the evening crowd, The Penn Theatre will be showing the Disney movie "Frozen", and the Plymouth Historical Museum will be offering a two for one admission special throughout the weekend.  Click on the link below for more information about this years Plymouth Ice Festival.  You can always leave a comment, and your emails can be sent to mittenstatesportsreport@rocketmail.com  Be sure to check out all of the Mitten State Sports Report's archived material.
