Senior Day At Oestrike Stadium

EMU drops their final home game 9-3

Eastern Michigan wrapped up their home slate this past weekend when Bowling Green visited Oestrike Stadium for a three game series in which the Eagles took two out of three games.  Senior night was Sunday afternoon, and the Falcons spoiled the party with a 9-3 win over Eastern Michigan.  The Eagles gave up four runs in the first inning, and starter Ryan Lavoie (3-3) was replaced by Jordan Glover who lasted 5.2 innings and surrendered no earned runs.  The Eagles commited 6 errors, (season high) but were in striking distance going into the ninth inning trailing 6-3.  The Falcons added three more runs in the ninth to secure the victory over the Eagles.
The Mid-American Conference West Division is a tight race as we approach the end of the regular season.  The Eagles are now 22-24 on the season and 12-9 in the MAC trailing Toledo by one game for the top overall spot in the division.  The Mid-American Conference Tournament begins on May 23rd, and will be played in Avon Ohio. (home of Kent State)
The Eagles played a tough, and respectable non-conference schedule this season including two wins over the University of Michigan.  The Eagles out scored the Wolverines by a combined total of 19-4 in the home and away meeting.  The Eagles were also 3-0 against in state rival Western Michigan, and 2-1 against their other rival Central Michigan.  The Eagles currently rank in the top 50 in the nation in several offensive categories, and pitcher Steve Weber (6-3) has been a bright spot this season winning the 'MAC West Pitcher Of The Week Award' twice.
Throughout the years, EMU's baseball program has earned respect on a national level for running a solid, competitive program while producing fifteen former MLB stars.  In 1976, Eastern Michigan made it all the way to the championship game of the 'College World Series' before eventually losing to Arizona.  The Eagles are the last team from Michigan, the midwest, or anywhere in the north to play for the championship.

The Eagles stayed within striking distance until the ninth!
