Elite 8: Local Preview
The NCAA Division 1 (National Collegiate Athletic Association) men's basketball "Elite 8" kicks off later this afternoon for two schools from the state of Michigan. University of Michigan, and Michigan State University are each one win away from a "Final Four" appearance, and both schools are just two wins away from an all Michigan National Championship Final.
University of Michigan is the #2 seed in the Midwest Region, and the Wolverines are still in Indianapolis awaiting a 4:30 p.m. tip off against University of Kentucky. The Wildcats are the #8 seed, but have a talented group of freshman that will definitely have a future in the NBA (National Basketball Association). Kentucky finished the regular season with an overall record of 27-10, and a 12-6 record in the SEC (Southeastern Conference). If the Wolverines can get past Kentucky, they'll face a "Final Four" matchup against their Big 10 Conference rival University of Wisconsin. Today's game is televised and can be seen on CBS at 4:30 p.m.
Michigan State University is the #4 seed in the East Region, and the Spartans are in New York awaiting a 2:00 p.m. tip off against University of Connecticut. The Huskies are the #7 seed, but have an experienced backcourt lead by Shabazz Napier. Connecticut finished the regular season with an overall record of 26-8, and a 12-6 record in the AAC Conference (American Athletic Conference). If the Spartans can get past Connecticut, they'll face a "Final Four" matchup against University of Florida. Today's game is televised, and can be seen on CBS at 2:00 p.m.
