The Los Angeles Clippers are going to be on the market due to the ignorant, and racist comments made by their current owner Donald Sterling. Everyone is wondering who will buy the franchise, but maybe the question that needs to be asked is does the NBA (National Basketball Association) really need the Los Angeles Clippers?
Donald Sterling bought the team in 1981, and the franchise has maintained a reputation as being a team that has no interest in winning, and frankly they've been the joke of the league for about 30 years. The Clippers don't even have their own arena, and they share the Staples Center with the Lakers, and Kings. Throughout the years, the Clippers have almost always drafted lottery picks, but the team missed on several picks, and rarely resigned their good players after they finished their first contract. Los Angeles is a Laker town, and a Dodger town as far as sports are concerned, so would the NBA even miss the Clippers?
If you allowed Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and the rest of the Clippers to become free agents, it would strengthen the league, and all 30 NBA teams could benefit by improving their roster. The State of California already has the Golden State Warriors, the Sacramento Kings, and the Los Angeles Lakers. There would still be plenty of options for basketball fans out West, without the existence of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Plenty of franchises in all four of the major sports have been eliminated throughout the years, and many of them had a bigger fan base then the Clippers have. I would argue that the Los Angeles Raiders, the Montreal Expos, the Hartford Whalers, and the Seattle Supersonics all had more successful campaigns then the Clippers, but the franchise has managed to survive on life support since 1981. Do you think that the NBA needs the Clippers anymore? You can always leave a comment, and you can email the Mitten State Sports Report directly at mittenstatesportsreport@rocketmail.com
