Whalers Eliminated From Playoffs!

  

The Plymouth Whalers have been eliminated from the OHL (Ontario Hockey League) Playoffs!

  

                                                       
    The Plymouth Whalers were eliminated from the OHL (Ontario Hockey League) Playoffs last night courtesy of the Kitchener Rangers in game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals.  The game was competitive through two periods, but the Rangers took control of the game in the 3rd period, and cruised to a 6-3 win.  Boston Bruins prospect Tyler Randell was the difference maker for the Rangers contributing four goals for Kitchener in the winning effort.  It was Randell's first game back since serving a 10 game suspension.  Rangers Goalie, and Anaheim Ducks prospect John Gibson also played a key roll in the Rangers victory making one big save after another.  The Rangers added an empty net goal near the end of the game, and a fight ensued between Whalers Center Mitchell Heard, and Rangers Defenseman (Winnipeg Jets prospect) Cody Sol.  The Rangers were well represented with fans which showed up in great numbers to cheer on their Kitchener squad in the deciding game of the series.  Kitchener will enter the Western Conference finals on the road against the London Knights which knocked out the Saginaw Spirit in six games on Saturday. 
    In the Eastern Conference, the Ottawa 67's defeated the Barrie Colts (4-3) last night in game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, and will now begin game 1 of the Conference Finals on the road against the Niagara Ice Dogs.  Niagara is the top overall seed in the Eastern Conference.
     The Whalers dropped to 5-6 all time in their Playoff game 7 history.  Last season, the Whalers defeated the Rangers (4-2) in game 7 of the Western Conference quarterfinals which took place in Kitchener.  In 2003, the Whalers lost game seven of the Western Conference finals (3-1) to the Kitchener Rangers which also took place in Kitchener.
