The Rifle River High Banks entrance has 88 steps, and a place for your small boat along the side! |
The Rifle River stretches throughout the Ogemaw County area, and runs through Mills Township, West Branch and several other cities in Mid Michigan. There are several public entrances that are used to access the Rifle River for flat boat fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing. Some of these public entrances are more well known by the locals then others. The Rifle River High Banks entrance is located off of Rifle River Road, just south of M-55. The Rifle River High Banks entrance has 88 steps, and a place for your small boat along the side. Near the half way point is a resting area with a bench, and a trail that leads to another entrance to the water. The trail has a lookout point which is placed high above the water, and offers a breathtaking view of the Rifle River. The other entrance also has a rail for your small boat, and leads directly into the water. This entrance doesn't have all of the muck at the bottom like the main entrance does. If you use the Rifle River High Banks entrance don't forget to bring the bug spray, and if you go canoeing on a windy day, be advised that the current at this entrance is very strong.
The second entrance leads directly into the water! |
