The Midwest Junior Hockey League includes six hockey teams from Michigan! |
The MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League) is an AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) hockey league featuring junior hockey players from our local area. The purpose of the MWJHL is to prepare it's players for the next level of hockey, whether it be at the college level, or in other junior hockey leagues. Six of the seven teams competing in the MWJHL this season are from Michigan including the Alpena Street Cats, the Berkley Bruins, the Detroit Fighting Irish, the Michigan Ice Dogs, the Soo Firehawks, and the Traverse City Hounds. The Bloomington Jr. Blaze are the only team competing in the MWJHL that are not from Michigan. This is the second season that the MWJHL has been in existence.
The Hartland Hounds dominated the MWJHL inaugural season last year posting a 47-1 overall record. The Hounds only loss of the season came against the Michigan Ice Dogs in overtime. The Hounds have relocated up north to Traverse City, but they have taken there winning ways with them. The Traverse City Hounds are currently in 1st place in the MWJHL with 51 points, and a 24-6 record, through 30 games.
