Plymouth 6 - Sarnia 3




On Thursday night, the Plymouth Whalers (in green) defeated the Sarnia Sting (in yellow) 6-3.











      On Thursday night, the Plymouth Whalers defeated the Sarnia Sting 6-3.  The Sarnia Sting outshot Plymouth 42-35, but Whalers goaltender #39 Alex Nedeljkovic made 39 saves for Plymouth.  Both teams are divisional rivals, and both squads are fighting for a postseason spot in the 2014-2015 OHL (Ontario Hockey League) Playoffs.
     The Plymouth Whalers are currently in 5th place in the West Division standings with 47 points, and an overall record of 21-37 (3 overtime losses, and 2 shootout losses).  The Plymouth Whalers play all of their home games at Compuware Arena, located at 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth.  Click on the links below for more information about the Plymouth Whalers, or Compuware Arena.  Scroll down to see exclusive photos from Thursday night's 6-3 victory over Sarnia.

On Thursday night, Whalers goaltender #39 Alex Nedeljkovic made 39 saves.

Detroit vs. Traverse City





On Sunday, the Traverse City Hounds defeated the Detroit Fighting Irish 8-0.  The Hounds have an overall record of 36-6.











     On Sunday afternoon, the Traverse City Hounds defeated the Detroit Fighting Irish 8-0.  The win wrapped up a three game weekend series at the Brownstown Sports Center, which is formerly known as the Ice Box.  The Fighting Irish earned a 2-0 win over the Hounds on Friday, but the Hounds recovered to win 7-3 on Saturday. The Detroit Fighting Irish play all of their home games at the Brownstown Sports Center, located at 21902 Telegraph Road, in Brownstown Township.
     The Traverse City Hounds are currently in 1st place in the MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League) standings with 75 points, and an overall record of 36-6 (1 overtime loss, and 2 shootout losses).  The Hounds have already qualified for the 2014-2015 MWJHL Playoffs.  Click on the links below for more information about the Traverse City Hounds, or the Midwest Junior Hockey League.  Scroll down to check out exclusive photos from the Hounds 8-0 (Sunday) victory over Detroit.

Local Wrestling News + Shows!






Watch the Wolves (Davey Richards, and Eddie Edwards) on Destination America!  Impact Wrestling airs on Friday nights.












     TNA (Total Nonstop Action) Wrestling can no longer be seen on Spike, but the hit television show Impact Wrestling has been picked up by Destination America.  Impact Wrestling airs on Friday nights between 7:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m., and again on Saturday mornings between 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Destination America broadcasts replays, followed by new episodes.  Check your local listings to find out more information about Destination America, or click on the link below.

Whalers To Checkers!





Several former Plymouth Whalers now play for the Charlotte Checkers.  Last season, Austin Levi played in 10 AHL games.











     The Charlotte Checkers are an AHL (American Hockey League) hockey team, and they are the minor league affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes.  Several former Plymouth Whalers are now playing for the Checkers including Alex Aleardi, Chad LaRose, Carter Sandlak, Michal Jordan, and Beau Schmitz.  Former Whaler Austin Levi (pictured above) played in 10 games for the Charlotte Checkers last season.
     The Charlotte Checkers roster also features some other hometown connections.  Checkers Defenseman Patrick Brown is from Bloomfield Hills, and goaltender Drew MacIntyre was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings back in 2001.  MacIntyre was selected in the 4th round of the 2001 NHL (National Hockey League) draft, and was the 121st overall pick.
     The Charlotte Checkers compete in the Western Conference of the American Hockey League.  The Checkers are currently in 4th place in the West Division with 46 points, and an overall record of 20-32 (5 overtime losses, and 1 shootout loss).

     The Mitten State Sports Report is constantly looking for ways to grow, and improve.  In the early days of the Mitten State Sports Report, several of the photographs were blurry, there were rarely links attached to the posts, and some of the titles were long, and confusing.  The new, and improved Mitten State Sports Report features better pictures, more links, shorter titles, and better articles.

Heartbreak in the Heights!






The Michigan Stars played their 2014 season at the Star International Academy football field, located in Dearborn Heights.











     The Michigan Stars played their 2014 season at the Star International Academy football field, located in Dearborn Heights.  Last month, the Stars announced that they are moving their team operations to Pontiac, and the team will play their 2015 home games at Wisner Stadium.  Wisner Stadium is located at 441 Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, in Pontiac.
     The Michigan Stars compete in the Midwest Region of the NPSL (National Premier Soccer League), and the team expanded into the league in 2014.  The NPSL currently has 64 teams scheduled to compete in the 2015 season.  The NPSL featured 74 teams in 2014.  Click on the link below for more information about the National Premier Soccer League.
     The Michigan Stars finished the 2014 season in 12th place (of 15 teams) in the Midwest Region with 13 points, and an overall record of 4-9-1.  The Midwest Region is scheduled to feature 12 teams for the 2015 season.  Click on the link below for more information about the Michigan Stars.

Official Ice Report

-  Jewelry can be referred to as ice.  Being "iced out" or "icy" can refer to as wearing lots of jewelry.

-  Products that we buy at the store use the name ice.  Ice cream, and ICY HOT are some examples.





-  Disney, and Sesame Street have put their Broadway style shows on ice to increase popularity.

-  Athletic trainers use ice.  Ice can reduce swelling by decreasing blood flow to an area.





-  Salt can affect ice's equilibrium.  Ice will begin to melt when this happens.

-  Many rap artists have used the name ice.  Ice Cube, Ice-T, and Vanilla Ice are just a few examples.





-  Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" was the first hip hop song to ever top the Billboard Charts.





-  Actors have utilized the name ice in movies.  Val Kilmer was Tom "Iceman" Kazanski in Top Gun.





-  Marvel comics created a superhero based on ice.  He is known as Iceman.





-  Boxers such as "Iceman" John Scully, and Vernon "Iceman" Paris have utilized the name ice.





-  Fictional boxers have even used the name ice.  George "Iceman" Chambers was in "Undisputed".





-  Pro Wrestlers have also utilized ice in their name.  "Iceman" King Parsons is an example.





-  "The Iceman Cometh" was a Broadway play written by Eugene O'Neill.  It later became a film.

-  In sports, icing a game refers to securing the victory.





-  In Championship games, champagne is usually kept on ice.
