USA 6-1 Augsburg

     On Wednesday, December 29th, the USA NTDP (National Team Development Program) U-18 Team defeated the Augsburg University Auggies (Minnesota) 6-1.  USA NTDP Forward #19 Cutter Gauthier lead Team USA with 3 goals, and an assist.  The game was played at the USA Hockey Arena located at 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth.  Saturday's exhibition was part of the Kroger College Series.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs. 

     The USA NTDP competes in the Eastern Conference of the USHL (United States Hockey League).  Team USA is currently in 8th place in the USHL Eastern Conference standings with 15 points, and an overall record of 6-12-3 (3 overtime losses).  Augsburg University is a NCAA Division III program, and the Auggies compete in the MIAC (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).  The Augsburg University Men's hockey team currently has an overall record of 9-2.

Ross Jr. On BTN

 



     Jason Ross Jr. is currently doing play-by-play for college basketball games on the Big Ten Network.  Ross Jr. spent his college career calling games for the Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils from 2017-2021.  Jason Ross Jr. also does play-by-play for the Chicago Blackhawks, and for MAC (Mid-American Conference) football games.  Jason Ross Jr. has also called games for Detroit City FC, the USPBL (United Shore Professional Baseball League), and the Oakland University Women's basketball team.

Sports On USA Network




     NBCSN (NBC Sports Network) is ceasing operations beginning on January 1st, 2022.  Many of the sports that were previously seen on NBCSN such as college basketball, NASCAR, and Premier League will now be shown on USA Network.  The New Year's Day sports schedule on USA Network kicks off with a Premier League tripleheader starting at 7:30 a.m.

Albion Athletics On YouTube

 



     The Albion Athletics YouTube channel currently features 119 videos for fans of college sports.  The channel livestreams entire Albion College games, and shorter videos that show just the highlights.  Albion College is a NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division III program, and the Britons compete in the MIAA (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association).  The Albion Athletics YouTube channel currently has 665 subscribers.

-  The Albion College football team finished the 2021 season with an overall record of 9-2.  The Britons lost to the University of Wisconsin La Crosse Eagles 58-23 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs.   


-  The Albion Men's Lacrosse team finished the 2021 season with an overall record of 13-2.  The Britons lost to the Hope College Dutchmen 19-13 in the MIAA Tournament Final.

Ferris State Wins Title

 



     On Saturday, December 18th, the Ferris State University football team defeated the Valdosta State University Blazers (Georgia) 58-17 to win the 2021 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II Championship.  The Championship game was broadcast live on ESPNU.  The Ferris State University Bulldogs finished the 2021 season with an overall record of 14-0.  Ferris State University competes in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).

Football: USFL News

 



     The reboot of the USFL (United States Football League) is set to kick off in April of 2022, and games will be televised on FS1 (Fox Sports 1).  The USFL relaunch will feature eight teams, and two divisions.  The North Division will include the Michigan Panthers, the New Jersey Generals, the Philadelphia Stars, and the Pittsburgh Maulers.  The South Division will include the Birmingham Stallions, the Houston Gamblers, the New Orleans Breakers, and the Tampa Bay Bandits.  All eight franchises competed in the original USFL that ran from 1983-1985.  The Michigan Panthers won the 1983 USFL Championship.

Crawford In Chicago

 



     Chicago Bears Cornerback #21 Xavier Crawford is currently playing in his 3rd season in the NFL (National Football League).  Crawford spent most of his early pro career on practice squads, but Crawford did see limited action in each of his first two seasons in the NFL.  Crawford's playing time, and production have increased, and Crawford currently has 7 tackles including 4 solo tackles in 10 games played this season.  

     Xavier Crawford played college football at Central Michigan University in 2018 after transferring from Oregon State University.  The Houston Texans selected Xavier Crawford in the 6th round (195th overall pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft.  Xavier Crawford was born in Pittsburg, California.

Robinson Doubtful

 



      Chicago Bears Wide Receiver #12 Allen Robinson II is listed as doubtful for today's Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions.  Robinson sat out last week after injuring his hamstring in week 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Allen Robinson II played high school football at (Orchard Lake) St. Mary's Preparatory.  Robinson went on to play college football at Penn State University.  Allen Robinson II was born in Detroit, Michigan.  

      Allen Robinson II currently has 30 catches for 339 yards, and 1 touchdown in 9 games played this season.  Robinson has recorded more than 1,000 yards per season three times in his NFL (National Football League) career including a 1,400-yard season in 2015.  The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Allen Robinson II in the 2nd round (61st overall pick) of the 2014 NFL Draft.  The Chicago Bears are currently in 3rd place in the NFC (National Football Conference) North standings with an overall record of 3-7.

McDowell In Cleveland

 



     Defensive End #95 Myles Garrett is often the first guy mentioned when people talk about the Cleveland Browns Defensive Line, but Defensive Tackle #58 Malik McDowell is chipping in nicely for the Browns in his first season in the NFL (National Football League).  McDowell currently has 21 tackles including 13 solo tackles in 11 games played this season.  Malik McDowell has also accumulated 3 sacks this season.  

     Malik McDowell played college football at Michigan State University from 2014-2016.  McDowell also played high school football at Loyola High School (in Detroit), and at Southfield High School. The Seattle Seahawks selected Malik McDowell in the 2nd round (35th overall pick) of the 2017 NFL Draft, but the Seahawks released McDowell in 2019.  The Cleveland Browns signed Malik McDowell in 2021.  Malik McDowell was born in Detroit.

Loyer Looks To Lead Wildcats




     Junior Guard #0 Foster Loyer is looking to help lead the Davidson College Men's basketball team after transferring from Michigan State University where he spent the previous three seasons.  Foster Loyer is currently the Wildcats third leading scorer with 13.2 points per game in five games played this season.  Loyer is also shooting over 50% from three point range making 13 of 24 attempts from behind the arc.  Foster Lawyer played high school basketball at Clarkston High School.  Loyer was the recipient of the 2017-2018 Hal Schram Mr. Basketball Award (Mr. Michigan Basketball).  

     The Davidson College Men's basketball team currently has an overall record of 3-2.  Davidson College is a NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division I program, and the Wildcats compete in the Atlantic 10.  The Wildcats are currently lead in scoring by Junior Guard #1 Hyunjung Lee with 15.4 points per game.  Wildcats Senior Forward #35 Luka Brajkovic is the currently the Wildcats second leading scorer with 14.2 points per game.

UofM-D 2-1 Cleary

 


On Friday, November 19th, the UofM-D Wolverines defeated the Cleary Cougars 2-1 in Dearborn.




     On Friday, November 19th, the University of Michigan Dearborn Men's hockey team defeated the Cleary University Cougars 2-1 in Dearborn.  The Wolverines also earned a 7-4 victory over the Cougars on Saturday afternoon in Howell.  Both schools are members of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association), and both teams compete against each other in the WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference).  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs from Friday's hockey game in Dearborn. 

     The University of Michigan Dearborn Men's hockey team currently has a conference record of 8-4, and an overall record of 10-7-1 (1 shootout loss).  The Wolverines are currently riding a six-game winning streak.  The Cleary University Men's hockey team currently has a conference record of 2-10, and an overall record of 3-13.  The Cougars are currently riding a six-game losing streak.

FPHL News: November 2021




     The Port Huron Prowlers are currently in 4th place in the FPHL (Federal Prospects Hockey League) standings with 9 points, and an overall record of 2-2-1-1 (1 overtime win, and 1 overtime loss).  The FPHL awards three points for a win, two points for an overtime win, and 1 point for an overtime loss.  The FPHL was previously known as the Federal Hockey League until the end of the 2017-2018 season. 

     The 2021-2022 FPHL season features seven teams including the Binghamton Black Bears, the Carolina Thunderbirds, the Columbus River Dragons, the Danbury Hat Tricks, the Delaware Thunder, the Port Huron Prowlers, and the Watertown Wolves.  The Danbury Hat Tricks are currently in 1st place in the FPHL standings with 11 points, and an overall record of 3-1-1 (1 overtime win).  The Binghamton Black Bears are an expansion team competing in their first FPHL season.  The Columbus River Dragons won the 2021 Ignite Cup (FPHL Championship).  The Ignite Cup was formerly known as the Commissioner's Cup before last season.  

     The Motor City Rockers were supposed to compete in the 2021-2022 FPHL season, but the team has remained dormant for the second season in a row.  The Rockers have yet to play a FPHL game after announcing their arrival in 2020.  The Rockers become the third FHL/FPHL team from the state of Michigan to cease operations.  The Battle Creek Rumble Bees competed in the FPHL during the 2019-2020 season, and the St. Clair Shores Fighting Saints competed in the FHL during the 2016-2017 season.

Junior Hockey In Redford



On Saturday November 13th, the Detroit Fighting Irish defeated the Motor City Hockey Club 8-1.





     On Saturday, November 13th, the Detroit Fighting Irish (in black, and yellow) defeated the Motor City Hockey Club (in red, and white) 8-1 at Redford Ice Arena located at 12400 Beech Daly Road, in Redford.  Both teams compete against each other in the Premier Division of the USPHL (United States Premier Hockey League).  The Fighting Irish also defeated the Motor City Hockey Club 9-3 on Friday night.  Scroll down to see an exclusive photograph of Saturday's USPHL game in Redford.  

     The Detroit Fighting Irish are currently in 5th place in the USPHL Mid West East Division standings with 11 points and an overall record of 5-8-1 (1 overtime loss).  The Motor City Hockey Club is currently in 7th place in the USPHL Mid West East Division standings with 6 points, and an overall record of 1-9-3-1 (3 overtime losses, and 1 shoot out loss).

Building Bridges

 



     Forward #0 Miles Bridges is currently playing in his fourth season with the Charlotte Hornets.  Bridges is currently averaging 21.3 points per game through the first thirteen games of the 2021-2022 NBA (National Basketball Association) season.  Bridges is the leading scorer on a talented roster that also includes LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward, Terry Rozier, and Kelly Oubre Jr.  The Charlotte Hornets are currently in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings with an overall record of 6-7.

     Miles Bridges is also averaging 7.6 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game for the Hornets so far this season.  The Los Angeles Clippers selected Miles Bridges with the 12th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft, but the Clippers traded Bridges to the Hornets on the night of the draft.  Miles Bridges played his college basketball career at Michigan State University from 2016-2018.  Miles Bridges was born in Flint, Michigan.

Ferris Sports Update On CN900




     Ferris Sports Update TV can be seen throughout the week on CN900 (Comcast Network TV), and on the ferrisathletics YouTube channel.  Ferris Sports Update TV offers highlights, and news about all of the different teams in the Bulldogs athletic program.  Ferris Sports Update TV is hosted by Rob Bentley.

     Ferris State University is a NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II program, and the Bulldogs compete in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).  The Ferris State University Men's hockey team competes in Division I of the NCAA.

     The Ferris State University football team is currently ranked #1 in the Country according to the latest AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Division II Coaches Poll.  The Bulldogs currently have an overall record of 9-0 with one regular season home game left against the struggling Wayne State University Warriors (2-8). The NCAA Division II National Championship is scheduled for Saturday, December 18th, in McKinney, Texas.

Vultures 28-23 Storm

 



     On Saturday, November 6th, the Baltimore Vultures defeated the Florida Storm 28-23 to win the SFL (Simulation Football League) 17th Season Championship.  The game was livestreamed on FTF (For the Fans), and on Next Level Sports.  Saturday's SFL Championship can also be seen on the Simulationfl YouTube channel.  There were 24 teams that competed in the 17th season of the Simulation Football League.  

     The Baltimore Vultures finished the SFL 17th regular season with an overall record of 11-1.  Vultures Quarterback #9 Jack Wigmore was named MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the SFL 17th Season Championship.  Wigmore completed 33 of 46 passing attempts for 281 yards, and 2 touchdowns.  Wigmore also finished the game with a 92.8 Quarterback Rating.

-  The Florida Storm finished the SFL 17th regular season with an overall record of 10-2. 


-  Vultures Quarterback #9 Jack Wigmore completed 345 of 507 passing attempts for 4,484 yards, and 40 touchdowns during the SFL 17th regular season.  Wigmore also threw 25 interceptions, and was sacked 28 times in 12 games played.


-  The Baltimore Vultures also won the SFL 15th Season Championship.   


-  The Denver Nightwings won the SFL 16th Season Championship.  The Nightwings also won the SFL 13th Season Championship.  Denver finished the SFL 17th regular season with an overall record of 4-8.


-  The Atlanta Swarm won the SFL 14th Season Championship.  Atlanta finished the SFL 17th regular season with an overall record of 9-3.  The Swarm lost to the Arizona Scorpions 38-31 in the SFL 17th Season Quarterfinals.  


-  The Simulation Football League also has a minor league that currently features 9 teams.

CHL On CBC

 



     Live broadcasts of CHL (Canadian Hockey League) games can be seen on Saturday afternoons throughout the season on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company).  The CHL includes the OHL (Ontario Hockey League), the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League), and the WHL (Western Hockey League).  The next live broadcast on CBC is scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. when the Kingston Frontenacs host the Mississauga Steelheads.  Both teams compete against each other in the Eastern Conference of the Ontario Hockey League.  

     The Flint Firebirds, and the Saginaw Spirit both compete against each other in the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League.  The Flint Firebirds are currently in 4th place in the OHL Western Conference standings with 12 points, and an overall record of 6-3.  The Saginaw Spirit are currently in 7th place in the OHL Western Conference standings with 11 points and an overall record of 5-3-1 (1 overtime loss).

LTU 5-1 UofM-D



On Saturday November 6th, the LTU Men's soccer team defeated the UofM-D Men's soccer team 5-1.




     On Saturday, November 6th, the Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils defeated the University of Michigan Dearborn Wolverines 5-1 in a WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) Men's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals matchup in Southfield.  The Blue Devils will now head on the road Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. for a WHAC Men's Soccer Tournament Semifinals matchup vs. the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers.  The 2021 NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Men's Soccer National Championship is scheduled for November 30th - December 6th, in Decatur, Alabama.

     The Lawrence Tech University Men's soccer team currently has a conference record of 7-2-1, and an overall record of 12-5-1.  The University of Michigan Dearborn Men's soccer team finished the 2021 season with a conference record of 4-5-1, and an overall record of 5-11-1.  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs of Saturday night's soccer showdown in Southfield.

Poole Play

 



     Shooting Guard #3 Jordan Poole is currently playing in his third season with the Golden State Warriors.  Poole is currently averaging 17.6 points per game through the first eight games of the 2021-2022 NBA (National Basketball Association) season.  Poole is second on the team in scoring this season behind Stephen Curry with 25.8 points per game.  The Golden State Warriors are currently in 1st place in the Western Conference standings with an overall record of 7-1.  Golden State is currently riding a three game winning streak.  The Warriors have done all of this so far this season without injured Shooting Guard #11 Klay Thompson. 

     Jordan Poole is also averaging 3.3 assists per game, and 1.4 steals per game for the Warriors so far this season.  The Golden State Warriors selected Jordan Poole with the 28th overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft.  Jordan Poole played his college basketball career at the University of Michigan from 2017-2019.  Jordan Poole was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
