More V8's News: January

 



     On Saturday, January 28th, the San Diego Mavericks defeated the Motor City V8's 35-27.  Mavericks Quarterback #9 Scar Patterson was named Player of the Game.  Patterson completed 25 of 40 passing attempts for 265 yards, and 3 touchdowns.  Patterson also threw 2 interceptions.  The Mavericks offensive line didn't allow Patterson to be sacked on Saturday.

     V8's Quarterback #15 Ibrahim Krieta threw for 365 yards, and 2 touchdowns, but he also threw 6 interceptions.  The Mavericks returned two of those interceptions for touchdowns.  Motor City's offensive line allowed Krieta to be sacked 2 times, and V8's Running Back #47 Christopher Dean was held to just 33 yards on the ground.  Dean did score 1 touchdown on Saturday.  San Diego rushed for 123 yards against the Motor City defense.

     The San Diego Mavericks, and the Motor City V8's both compete in the SFL (Simulation Football League).  The Mavericks are currently tied for 1st place in the SFL West Division standings with an overall record of 3-0.  The Arizona Scorpions are also tied for 1st place in the SFL West Division standings with an overall record of 3-0.  The Scorpions are scheduled to host the Motor City V8's this Sunday night at 9:00 p.m.

     The London Knights are currently in 1st place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 1-1.  The Canton Classics are in 2nd place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 1-2.  The Motor City V8's are currently in 3rd place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 1-2.  The Queen City Corsairs are currently in 4th place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 0-3.

Eagles College Connections

 



     The Philadelphia Eagles (15-3) are scheduled to host the San Francisco 49ers (15-4) today in the NFC (National Football Conference) Championship on FOX beginning at 3:00 p.m.  The Philadelphia Eagles active roster currently features two players that played college football in the state of Michigan including Brandon Graham, and Josiah Scott.

     Philadelphia Eagles Defensive End #55 Brandon Graham played college football at the University of Michigan from 2006-2009.  Graham also played high school football in the city of Detroit.  The Philadelphia Eagles selected Brandon Graham in the 1st round (13th overall pick) of the 2010 NFL (National Football League) Draft.  

     Philadelphia Eagles Cornerback #33 Josiah Scott played college football at Michigan State University from 2017-2019.  The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Josiah Scott in the 4th round (137th overall pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft.  Josiah Scott is from Ohio.

USFL Games In Detroit

 


The Michigan Panthers, and the Philadelphia Stars will play their home games at Ford Field in Detroit.




     On Thursday, January 26th, the USFL (United States Football League) announced that the Michigan Panthers, and the Philadelphia Stars will play their home games this season at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.  Three other cities will also host USFL games this season including Birmingham, (Alabama), Canton, (Ohio), and Memphis, (Tennessee).  The 2023 USFL season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, April 15th.  

     The 2023 USFL season will once again feature eight teams, but the Tampa Bay Bandits are being replaced by the Memphis Showboats.  The Michigan Panthers finished the 2022 USFL season in 3rd place in the North Division standings with an overall record of 2-8.  The Birmingham Stallions (9-1) defeated the Philadelphia Stars (6-4) 33-30 to win the 2022 USFL Championship.

MLIS News: January 2023



The Detroit Waza Flo play their home games at the Detroit City Fieldhouse.




     Rapid City FC (Grand Rapids) is currently in 1st place in the MLIS (Major League Indoor Soccer) Eastern Division standings with an overall record of 3-1.  Rapid City FC play their home games at the MSA (Michigan Sports Academies) Sports Spot located at 3701 32nd Street SE, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Rapid City FC is scheduled to play their next home game on Saturday, February 11th (6:30 p.m.) against the Detroit Waza Flo.

     Rapid City FC Forward #23 Jacob Potts currently leads the team in scoring.  Potts has contributed 9 goals, and 9 points in 4 games played this season.  Forward #10 Nermin Crnkic has accumulated 5 goals, 3 assists, and 8 points in 4 games played this season.  

     The Detroit Waza Flo are currently in 4th place in the MLIS Eastern Division standings with an overall record of 0-3.  The Detroit Waza Flo play their home games at the Detroit City Fieldhouse located at 3401 E. Lafayette Street, in Detroit, Michigan.  The Detroit Waza Flo are scheduled to play their next home game on Sunday, January 29th (7:30 p.m.) against the Cincinnati Swerve. 

     Detroit Waza Flo Forward #16 Omar Lahbiki currently leads the team in scoring.  Lahbiki has contributed 4 goals, and 4 points in 2 games played this season.  Defender #11 Chris Castro has accumulated 2 goals, 1 assist, and 3 points in 3 games played this season.

     The Omaha Kings are currently in 1st place in the MLIS Central Division standings with an overall record of 4-0.  The Houston Bolt are currently in 1st place in the MLIS Southern Division standings with an overall record of 3-1.  There are twelve teams competing in the 2022-2023 MLIS season.

Hockey Island On YouTube

 



     There's a pretty good video on the NHL (National Hockey League) YouTube channel called "Hockey Island: Martha's Vineyard".  The seventeen-minute-long video follows a high school hockey team in Massachusetts known as the Martha's Vineyard Vineyarders.  The video talks about the successful history of the hockey program and shares why the sport is so important to the people of the island.  The short film also shows the team traveling by boat to play an away game and talks about how the people of the island are sometimes misunderstood.  

     The Martha's Vineyard boy's hockey team is a Division 4 program, and the Vineyarders compete in the Cape & Islands League.  The Vineyarders are currently in 5th place in the Division 4 standings with 18 points, and an overall record of 9-3.  The Vineyarders are currently riding a nine-game winning streak.

Golden Dog Bone

 



     On Saturday, January 21st, the Canton Classics defeated the Motor City V8's 24-13 at home to retain the Golden Dog Bone.  Both teams are rivals in the SFL (Simulation Football League) North Division.  The Classics also defeated the V8's last season 23-13 (in Week 9) in Detroit.  SFL games can be seen on the simulationfl YouTube channel.

     Canton Classics Wide Receiver #14 Kendra Wells was named Player of the Game on Saturday.  Wells had 13 receptions for 142 yards, and a touchdown.  Motor City V8's Quarterback #15 Ibrahim Krieta threw for 305 yards, and 1 touchdown, but he also threw 3 interceptions.  The offensive line allowed Ibrahim Krieta to be sacked 4 times, and V8's Running Back #47 Christopher Dean was held to just 47 yards on the ground.  Christopher Dean played Fullback for the V8's last season.   

     The Canton Classics are currently in 1st place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 1-1.  The Motor City V8's are currently in 2nd place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 1-1.  The London Knights are in 3rd place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 0-1.  The Queen City Corsairs are currently in 4th place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 0-2.

-  The Motor City V8's defense racked up 4 interceptions against Canton on Saturday.


-  V8's Quarterback #15 Ibrahim Krieta threw for 1 touchdown against Canton on Saturday.


-  V8's Kicker #17 Caleb Richards missed the first field goal of his career on Saturday from 51 yards.  Richards made his other two field goal attempts.  Caleb Richards has made 25 out of 26 field goal attempts in his career.

-  The Baltimore Vultures are the defending SFL Champions.  The Vultures have won three consecutive SFL Championships.

Pittsburgh 5-1 UofM-D

     On Friday, January 20th, the University of Pittsburgh Panthers defeated the University of Michigan Dearborn Wolverines 5-1.  The Wolverines earned a 6-5 shootout victory over the Panthers yesterday.  Both teams compete in Division 1 of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association).  Both games were played in Dearborn.

     University of Michigan Dearborn Forward #67 Joey Cullinan scored the only goal for the Wolverines on Friday.  The Panthers outshot the Wolverines 29-18.  Panthers Goaltender #30 Devin Barresi made 17 saves.  Wolverines Goaltender #1 Tanner Beals recorded 24 saves.   

     The University of Michigan Dearborn Men's hockey team currently has a conference record of 10-5-1 (1 shootout loss), and an overall record of 12-10-1.  The University of Pittsburgh Men's hockey team currently has a conference record of 7-0-1 (1 overtime loss), and an overall record of 13-5-3 (2 overtime losses, and 1 shootout loss).  

     The University of Michigan Dearborn Men's hockey team competes in the WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference).  The University of Pittsburgh Men's hockey team competes in the ESCHL (Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League).  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs of Friday's college hockey game.

The Wolverines earned a 6-5 shootout victory over the Panthers yesterday. 





Both teams compete in Division 1 of the ACHA.

Cowboys College Connections

 



     The San Francisco 49ers (14-4) are scheduled to host the Dallas Cowboys (13-5) tomorrow in an NFL (National Football League) Divisional Round game on FOX beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The Dallas Cowboys active roster currently features two players that played college football in the state of Michigan including Sean McKeon, and Cooper Rush.

     Dallas Cowboys Tight End #84 Sean McKeon played college football for the University of Michigan Wolverines from 2016-2019.  Sean McKeon went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.  Sean McKeon is from Massachusetts.

     Dallas Cowboys Quarterback #10 Cooper Rush played college football for the Central Michigan University Chippewas from 2012-2016.  Cooper Rush also played high school football at Lansing Catholic High School.  Cooper Rush went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft.  Cooper Rush was born in Charlotte, Michigan.

Handball On ESPN3

 



     2023 World Men's Handball Championship games can be seen live on ESPN3.  The 2023 World Men's Handball Championship is taking place in Poland, and in Sweden.  Team USA is finished in 3rd place in Group G with 2 points, and an overall record of 1-2.  Egypt (3-0), Croatia (2-1), and Morocco (0-3) also competed in Group G.

     Team USA advanced to the Main Round of the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship along with twenty-four other countries.  Eight other countries will play for the President's Cup.  Team USA is currently in 6th place in Group IV of the Main Round with 0 points, and an overall record of 0-2.  Team USA is scheduled to play Bahrain today at 9:30 a.m. 

     The 2023 World Men's Handball Championship Final is scheduled for Saturday, January 29th in Stockholm, Sweden.  There are 32 countries competing in the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship.  Denmark won the last two championships in 2019, and in 2021.  The event is being hosted by the IHF (International Handball Federation).

V8's News: January 2023




     On Saturday, January 14th, the Motor City V8's defeated the Denver Nightwings 26-17 at home in the first game of the SFL (Simulation Football League) 20th Season.  V8's Quarterback #15 Ibrahim Krieta was named MVP (Most Valuable Player) of Saturday's game.  Krieta completed 26 of 33 passing attempts for 270 yards, and 2 touchdowns.  

     The V8's defense recorded 6 interceptions on Saturday against rookie Quarterback #10 Gene Struthers.  V8's Cornerback #27 King Rashid accumulated 3 interceptions.  V8's Wide Receiver #86 Guy Clawson contributed 91 receiving yards, and 1 touchdown.  Guy Clawson played Tight End for the Motor City V8's last season.  V8's Kicker #17 Caleb Richards converted all four of his field goal attempts on Saturday.

     The Motor City V8's are currently in 1st place in the SFL North Division standings with an overall record of 1-0.  The V8's offensive line, and rush defense will have to improve if Motor City wants to be better than they were last season (4-8).  V8's Running Back #47 Christopher Dean only rushed for 62 yards on Saturday, and the Motor City offensive line allowed Ibrahim Krieta to be sacked 5 times.  Denver Nightwings Running Back #30 Baylee O'Shaughnessy rushed for 164 yards, and 1 touchdown on Saturday.

49ers College Connections




     The Detroit Lions (9-8) fell just short of qualifying for the 2022-2023 NFL (National Football League) Playoffs.  If the Los Angeles Rams (5-12) could've defeated the Seattle Seahawks (9-8) last week than the Lions would be playing on the road against the San Francisco 49ers (13-4) today in a wild card matchup.  The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Rams 19-16 last week to help them qualify for today's NFL wild card game against the San Francisco 49ers. 

     The 49ers vs. Seahawks game can be seen today on FOX beginning at 4:30 p.m.  The San Francisco 49ers are currently riding a ten-game winning streak.  The 49ers active roster currently features three players that played college football in the state of Michigan including Jaylon Moore, Taybor Pepper, and Ambry Thomas.

     49ers Offensive Lineman #76 Jaylon Moore played college football at Western Michigan University from 2016-2020.  Moore also played high school football in the city of Detroit.  The San Francisco 49ers selected Jaylon Moore in the 5th round (155th overall pick) of the 2021 NFL Draft.  

     49ers Long Snapper #46 Taybor Pepper played college football at Michigan State University from 2012-2016.  Pepper also played high school football at Saline High School.  Taybor Pepper went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. 

     49ers Cornerback #20 Ambry Thomas played college football at the University of Michigan from 2017-2019 (opted out in 2020).  Thomas also played high school football at Martin Luther King High School in Detroit.  The San Francisco 49ers selected Ambry Thomas in the 3rd round (102nd overall pick) of the 2021 NFL Draft.

We checked out the USA NTDP U-18 Team in January.




The USA NTDP U-17 Team was also featured on the Mitten State Sports Report.



We visited the 2022 Plymouth Ice Festival in February.



We attended college baseball games at Eastern Michigan University.



Five Eastern Michigan University baseball games were featured on the Mitten State Sports Report.



We traveled to Ann Arbor to watch the Concordia University baseball team.



We went to see the Detroit Tigers in May.



We checked out LCFC (Livonia City Football Club).



We went to see Oakland County FC in June.




Three Oakland County FC games were featured on the Mitten State Sports Report.





We went to 2022 Cruisin' Hines.





The USPBL was featured on the Mitten State Sports Report in September.



We checked out the weekly Classic Car Show at Blue Sky Ice Cream & Hamburgers  





We saw the Motor City Rockers.

UofM-D 4-0 Concordia

     On Saturday, January 7th, the University of Michigan Dearborn Men's hockey team defeated the Concordia University Cardinals at home 4-0.  The Wolverines also earned a 3-2 victory on the road against the Cardinals on Friday night.  Both schools are members of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association), and both teams compete in the WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference).

     Wolverines Goaltender #33 Eric Polzin made 26 saves in the 4-0 shutout victory over the Cardinals on Saturday night.  Wolverines Right Winger #18 Mikhail Khudenko accumulated 1 goal, and 3 assists.  The Wolverines also had 26 shots on goal.  Cardinals Goaltender #31 Anthony Seykora made 22 saves. 

     The University of Michigan Dearborn Men's hockey team currently has a conference record of 10-3-1 (1 shootout loss), and an overall record of 11-7-1.  The Concordia University Men's hockey team currently has a conference record of 6-8, and an overall record of 11-11 -1 (1 shootout loss).  Scroll down to see exclusive photographs of Saturday's college hockey game in Dearborn.

Packers College Connection




     The Green Bay Packers (8-8) are scheduled to host the Detroit Lions (8-8) tonight on Sunday Night Football beginning at 8:20 p.m. on NBC.  The Green Bay Packers roster currently features one player that played college football in the state of Michigan.

     Green Bay Packers Guard #76 Jon Runyan Jr. played college football at the University of Michigan from 2015-2019.  The Green Bay Packers selected Jon Runyan Jr. in the 6th round (192nd overall pick) of the 2020 NFL (National Football League) Draft.  Jon Runyan Jr. has played in every NFL game since being drafted.

     Jon Runyan's father Jon Runyan Sr. also played college football for the University of Michigan from 1992-1995.  The Houston Oilers (Tennessee Titans) selected John Runyan Sr. in the 4th round (109th overall pick) of the 1996 NFL Draft.  John Runyan Sr. played fourteen seasons in the NFL before serving in the United States Congress.
