Football: AFL News







     The 2019 AFL (Arena Football League) season features six teams including the Albany Empire, the Atlantic City Blackjacks, the Baltimore Brigade, the Columbus Destroyers, the Philadelphia Soul, and the Washington Valor.  The 2019 AFL season consists of a twelve game regular season schedule, and the top four teams will qualify for the AFL Playoffs.  This years Arena Bowl (AFL Championship) will be broadcast on ESPN2.
     2019 AFL regular season games can be watched live on ESPN3.  The Albany Empire are currently in 1st place in the AFL standings with an overall record of 5-0.  The Columbus Destroyers are currently in last place in the AFL standings with an overall record of 0-5.  The Atlantic City Blackjacks are an expansion team playing in their first season in the Arena Football League.

-  The Arena Football League played their 1st season in 1987.



-  Arena Bowl XXXII will be played in 2019.



-  The Washington Valor are the defending Arena Bowl Champions.



-  The Iowa Barnstormers, and the Arizona Rattlers are both former AFL franchises.  Both teams now compete in the IFL (Indoor Football League).



-  The Detroit Drive, the Detroit Fury, and the Grand Rapids Rampage are all former AFL franchises.  None of these teams exist anymore.

FHL News: May 2019







     The Port Huron Prowlers qualified for the 2018-2019 FHL (Federal Hockey League) Playoffs, but the Carolina Thunderbirds swept the Prowlers two games to none in the first round.  The Carolina Thunderbirds defeated the Elmira Enforcers three games to one to win the 2018-2019 Commissioners' Cup (FHL Championship).
     The Port Huron Prowlers finished the 2018-2019 season in 4th place in the FHL standings with 74 points, and an overall record of 22-32-3-2 (3 overtime wins, and 2 overtime losses).  The 2018-2019 FHL season featured six teams including the Carolina Thunderbirds, the Elmira Enforcers, the Watertown Wolves, the Port Huron Prowlers, the Mentor Ice Breakers, and the Danville Dashers.   Four teams qualified for the 2018-2019 FHL Playoffs.

-  The Elmira Enforcers swept the Watertown Wolves two games to none in the first round of the 2018-2019 FHL Playoffs.



-  The 2018-2019 FHL Championship was a best of five games series.  Both semifinals were best of three games series.



-  The Carolina Thunderbirds finished the 2018-2019 season in 1st place in the FHL standings with 149 points, and an overall record of 48-6-1-3 (1 overtime win, and 3 overtime losses).



-  The Danbury Hat Tricks are scheduled to join the FHL for the 2019-2020 season.

Bucks Begin Era In Flint





The Michigan Bucks are now known as the Flint City Bucks.  











     The Michigan Bucks are now known as the Flint City Bucks, and the club plays their home games at Kettering University's Atwood Stadium.  The Flint City Bucks compete in the USL League Two Great Lakes Division against four other teams from the Midwest.  The Flint City Bucks currently have an overall record of 0-0-1 (1 draw).  USL League Two was formerly known as the PDL (Premier Development League).

Local Ties In Preakness







     The 144th Preakness Stakes will take place today at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, and one horse in the race has ties to Michigan.  Owendale is currently a 8-1 odds favorite to win the Preakness, and Owendale is apparently named after Owendale-Gagetown High School located in Owendale, Michigan.  Owendale is a small village located in Huron County, and the village sits within Brookfield Township.  The 144th Preakness Stakes will be televised on NBC beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Opening Night At Flat Rock





Opening night at Flat Rock Speedway took [place on Saturday, May 4th.











     Opening night at Flat Rock Speedway took place on Saturday, May 4th, and the Mitten State Sports Report was there for all of the action.  Frank Jiovani, and the #45 car won the 50 lap ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Model feature.  Greg Studt, and the #33 car won the 15 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main.  Ian Jezylo, and the #00 car won the 15 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock B Main.  Dennis Whisman, and the #1 car won the 20 lap ARCA Victory Lane Quick Oil Change Figure 8 feature.

USA Season Wrap-Up





On Friday, April 12th, the Youngstown Phantoms defeated the USA NTDP U-17 Team 4-1.











     On Friday, April 12th, the Youngstown Phantoms defeated the USA NTDP (National Team Development Program) U-17 Team 4-1.  Both teams compete against each other in the Eastern Conference of the USHL (United States Hockey League).  The USA NTDP plays their home games at the USA Hockey Arena located at 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth.  The loss to Youngstown was the final 2018-2019 regular season game for the USA NTDP.
     The USA NTDP finished the 2018-2019 USHL season in 5th place in the Eastern Conference standings with 68 points, and an overall record of 30-24-2-6 (2 overtime losses, and 6 shootout losses).  The USA NTDP qualified for the USHL Playoffs, but they were swept in the first round of a three game series by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
     The Youngstown Phantoms finished the 208-2019 USHL season in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference standings with 77 points, and an overall record of 36-21-1-4 (1 overtime loss, and 4 shootout losses).  The Youngstown Phantoms qualified for the USHL Playoffs, but they were swept in the first round of a three game series by the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
     The Chicago Steel, and the Sioux Falls Stampede are currently competing in a five game series for a chance to hoist the Clark Cup (USHL Championship).  The Sioux Falls Stampede currently have a 1-0 series lead over the Chicago Steel.  Click on the link below for more information about the USHL.
