Football: SFL News

On Wednesday, October 30th, the Denver Nightwings hosted, and defeated the Seattle Tyrants 35-24 to win the 13th SFL (Simulation Football League) Championship.  The game was live streamed on FTF (For The Fans), and on Eleven Sports Network.  There were 21 teams that competed in the 13th SFL season.
SFL games are played without a joystick, and without direct user input.  SFL games feature play-by-play commentary, and color commentary.  Teams even have their own beat writers.  The SFL uses franchises that are made up, and the players have real names of ordinary people.  A SFL season features a 12 game regular season schedule followed by a postseason, and a Championship Game.  The state of Michigan is currently not represented in the SFL.

Tony With Jeff Blashill

Jeff Blashill (left), with Tony Pertile (right) at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.

I recently met Jeff Blashill at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.  Jeff Blashill is currently in his 5th season as Head Coach of the Detroit Red Wings.  Coach Blashill appeared to be scouting when I met him, but he was really polite, and super cool to talk with.  He was more than happy to pose for a picture, and we both agreed that the Detroit Red Wings have a lot of good young players.  We shook hands, and I let him get back to work.

A House Divided

Photograph was taken at Potbelly Sandwich Shop located at 42477 Ford Road, in Canton.

When you grow up in the State of Michigan you typically become a fan of either the University of Michigan Wolverines, or the Michigan State University Spartans.  A house divided refers to a home, or a family that includes fans of both teams.  You can usually throw out the team records when interstate rivals come together.  Many fans, and alumni find more satisfaction when the other team loses, then they do when their team wins.  The University of Michigan football team will host Michigan State University on Saturday, November 16th, 2019 (TBA).
The Mitten State also features several other interstate collegiate rivalries including Central Michigan University vs. Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University vs. Saginaw Valley State University, and Hillsdale College vs. Northwood University.  New rivalries will develop as several local colleges, and universities continue to expand their athletic programs to include the sport of football.
