     The 2016 Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but there is major concern about the quality, and safety levels of the water in Guanabara Bay.  There is a huge buzz on the internet suggesting that sailors, and swimmers competing at the 2016 Summer Olympics are very likely to be exposed to viruses, and infections.  There are mixed reports about how high the pollution levels are, but the image search photos are revealing, and shocking.  I don't know the extent of the problem, but I would urge anybody reading this to conduct their own research on this topic.

Sports Jeopardy On Crackle

     I recently discovered a really cool show called Sports Jeopardy.  It's hosted by Dan Patrick, and it's available on Crackle, or at www.sportsjeopardy.com  Sports Jeopardy is set up just like the original Jeopardy, and even includes features like the Daily Double, and Final Jeopardy.  Some of the answers are difficult, but the casual sports fan will definitely enjoy it.  Crackle is a free online distributor of original movies, and programs.  Click on the links below for more information about Sports Jeopardy, or Crackle.

Frozen Fish Fiasco

The Detroit Red Wings Alumni are scheduled to play in the 6th Annual Frozen Fish Fiasco.

     The 6th Annual Frozen Fish Fiasco takes place this weekend Saturday, January 30th - Sunday, January 31st at Clark Park in Detroit.  The Frozen Fish Fiasco features a series of outdoor matchups including High School games, youth league games, and adult league contests.  All of the money raised during the two day event goes directly to the Clark Park Coalition.  The Detroit Red Wings Alumni are scheduled to play Team Stahl's on Saturday, January 30th, at 12:30 p.m.  Clark Park is located at 1130 Clark Avenue, in Detroit.  Click on the links below for more information about Clark Park, the Detroit Red Wings Alumni, or the Frozen Fish Fiasco.

Davenport 10 - 2 EMU

The Davenport University Panthers currently have an overall record of 24-3.

     On Friday night, the Davenport University Panthers defeated the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 10-2. The game was played at the Taylor Sportsplex, and the Panthers outshot the Eagles 57-24.  Both teams compete in Division 1 of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association), and both clubs are rivals in the GLCHL (Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League).  Click on the links below for more information about the ACHA, the GLCHL, or the Taylor Sportsplex.

3rd and Long

The most important factor in whether or not a quarterback will have success in the NFL is how they perform on 3rd and long situations.

     Football fans have many different views, and opinions regarding the specific traits that make up a great NFL (National Football League) quarterback.  Some fans believe that a great quarterback should be tall, but others would say that accuracy, a strong arm, mobility, and pocket presence are more essential skills in today's game.
     The most important factor in determining whether or not a quarterback will have success in the NFL is how they perform on 3rd and long situations.  3rd and long downs are typically passing plays, but the comfort level is different for every quarterback.  Fans of an opposing team are still nervous when quarterbacks like Tom Brady, or Aaron Rodgers have the ball in a 3rd and long situation.  If you don't feel comfortable with a quarterback in a 3rd and long situation, or you don't fear an opposing quarterback in a 3rd and long, then you know that they're incapable of achieving the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl.

SC Adding Sports Dome

     Schoolcraft College is planning on building an indoor multi-sport dome that is scheduled to open in August of 2016.  The dome is expected to cost approximately 6 million dollars, but Schoolcraft College is reporting that the project will be completely funded by private investments.  The new dome will also serve as the future home of the MWHSC (Michigan Wolves-Hawks Soccer Club).  Click on the links below for more information about Schoolcraft College athletics, or the Michigan Wolves-Hawks Soccer Club.

Capture the Flag

     My all time favorite schoolyard game growing up was Capture the Flag.  I'm not talking about a computer, or video game version, but the actual indoor/outdoor activity.  I never played the game beyond grade school, and I often wonder why it's such a forgotten sport.  Capture the Flag requires skills such as speed, agility, stamina, and awareness.  There are many variations of Capture the Flag, and different rules apply to each variation.
     I'm surprised that a Professional Capture the Flag League doesn't exist in 2016.  It could be made into a full contact sport by replacing tagging with tackling.  The skill of climbing could also be utilized by placing the flags high above ground level.  If we can put a flag on the moon, then I know that we can put a flag on a field, and let people run with it.

Old Newsboys of Flint

     Old Newsboys of Flint has been helping people throughout Genesee County since 1924.  Many people are aware of their annual paper in December, but did you know that Old Newsboys of Flint offers programs, and events throughout the year?  Old Newsboys of Flint is hosting a President's Valentine Gala on February 13th from 6:00 p.m.-12:30 a.m.  There's also a Strike-Up-Some-Fun Bowling Event scheduled for April 1st at B's Bowling Center.  B's Bowling Center is located at 750 S. Many of the former Whalers now play for the Flint Firebirds.

We saw the Detroit Waza Flo in February!  The Waza Flo are now playing their home games in Flint.   

We checked out the Michigan Ice Dogs in March.  The Ice Dogs are now known as the Michigan Wild.

Jason Pertile sent us photographs from the Detroit Red Wings game in April!

In June, we went to the weekly Classic Car Show at Bakers of Milford.

We watched Frank Jiovani win at Flat Rock in July!

We sat next to the Thunder Bay Chill when they visited the Michigan Bucks!

We hopped on the bus at the Blue Sky Ice Cream and Hamburger.

The weather was perfect at the 5th Annual Cruisin' Hines.

We enjoyed walking around the track at Flat Rock Speedway!

During the Summer, Flat Rock Speedway is the place to be on a Saturday night.

We were on the sidelines for some college football in October!

The University of Michigan Flint Kodiaks compete in the NCFA (National Club Football Association).

Concordia University is a NAIA program.  The Cardinals compete in the MSFA (Mid-States Football Association).

We watched college hockey in November.  Illinois State University defeated Eastern Michigan University.

We checked out the USA NTDP.  Team USA competes in the USHL.
