Blue Sky Car Show

Jerry, and his rare 1963 Ford Falcon shined for all to see at the Blue Sky in Romulus!

A blast from the past takes place every Thursday evening, at the Blue Sky Ice Cream & Hamburger in Romulus, when Classic Cars invade the parking lot for their weekly Car Show.  The Classic Cars are worth seeing, and the food at the Blue Sky is always really good, and reasonably priced.  The Blue Sky is a dog friendly environment, and even has a dog sundae on their menu that is topped off with a dog biscuit.  I have eaten at the Blue Sky several times throughout the years, and have always enjoyed their chili cheese dogs, French fries, and their chicken sandwiches.
Several old models were on display yesterday at the Blue Sky, and Jerry's 1963 Ford Falcon wowed everyone who was in attendance for the overcast, cool night.  This season has been a rough go for Car Show lovers due to the excessive amounts of rain that our local area has received, but a few hundred people visited the Blue Sky Classic Car Show throughout the evening.  The show kicks off every Thursday evening at 5:00 P.M. (weather permitting), and usually starts to wrap up just after 8:00 P.M.  The Blue Sky is open until 10:00 P.M., and has a large area to display the cars.  The Blue Sky also has a "Bike Night" on Wednesday nights.  The Blue Sky is located in Romulus, on the corner of Eureka road, and S. Huron River Dr.  For more information about the Blue Sky click on the link below!  You can always leave a comment, or email the Mitten State Sports Report at mittenstatesportsreport@rocketmail.com

Official Mascot!

How can I become the "Official Mascot"?

The Mitten State Sports Report is in the process of selecting it's very own mascot.  Some organizations use large stuffed animals, but the Mitten State Sports Report has chosen to go a different route.  A live animal will be used to help represent the Mitten State Sports Report.  The job duties of the official mascot, will be to attend select games, and to offer their image, and likeness to certain articles on the Mitten State Sports Report.  There will be no voting process done by email, comments, or by poll, but a contest has been scheduled to determine who the official mascot will be.
On Friday August 9th, there will be a "Dog Tug of War Contest" at an undisclosed location somewhere in southeast Michigan.  This is an underground event, so there will be no information about if, when, or where the event will take place.  There will be no television broadcast, and nobody is allowed in or around the vicinity of the viewing area.  Log onto http://mittenstatesportsreport.blogspot.com
for exclusive results from this years event!

Leave a comment!  Your comments may even inspire a future article! They also may not!

Some dogs acquire the assistance of siblings, to help them hone their tug of war skills!

Rush vs. Lightning

The Michigan Rush (in blue) battled FSC Lightning (in white) in the Open Division Founders Cup semifinal!

Lightning players checked on their goalie after he hit is head on the goal post!

The game was very physical!  Back on July 19th, the Lightning handed the Rush their only loss of the season (4-0).

Yellow cards, flying elbows, and early departures were par for the course!

The officials stopped play to talk to both teams!

Officials allowed the rough stuff early, but later tried to restore the order!

The Rush defeated FSC Lightning 5-1 to advance to the (Open Division) Founders Cup Tournament Championship!

The Rush and Lightning are scheduled to meet this Wednesday night, in Northville (7:00), for a divisional matchup!

The Rush will play the Belle Isle Football Club for the (Open Division) Founders Cup Championship!

Rush To The Finals!

The Michigan Rush have advanced to the (Open Division) Founders Cup Finals!

On July 28th, the Michigan Rush competed against the FSC Lightning for a chance to advance to the Michigan United Soccer League's (Open Division) Founders Cup Finals.  The two teams have developed a bit of a rivalry with one other, after the FSC Lightning handed the Rush their only loss of the season (4-0) just nine days earlier on July 19th.  Founders Cup Tournament games are usually played with more intensity then divisional games are, and Northville Community Park had a playoff atmosphere for Sunday's semifinal elimination game.  The Rush defeated FSC Lightning 5-1, but the story of the game was the high quality level of soccer played, between a couple of teams that appeared not to like each other.  Yellow cards, flying elbows, and early departures were par for the course, and the fans that were in attendance remained vocal, and very much into the game.  The premier level of the MUSL was on display, and I found myself standing for much of the second half.  The Michigan Rush and the FSC Lightning are scheduled to meet this Wednesday night (7:00) for a divisional showdown at Northville Community Park.
The Michigan Rush are owned and operated by Jan Rigterink, and are currently in 1st place in the MUSL's Open Division with a 21 points, and a divisional record of 7-1.  Craig Hearn has 13 goals on the season, and leads the Michigan Rush, along with the Open Division in scoring.  Eric Bowman has added 4 goals this season for the Rush.  The Michigan Rush have advanced to the (Open Division) Founders Cup Tournament Finals, and will play the Belle Isle Football Club on August 11th at the Creek Center for the right to hoist the trophy.
The FSC Lightning are owned and operated by Eric Wright, and are currently in 3rd place in the MUSL's Open Division with 12 points, and a divisional record of 4-3.  Marcel Schmidt leads FSC Lightning in scoring with 5 goals this season.  Kyle Thom has added 4 goals this season for the Lightning.
Northville Community Park is a beautiful park in Northville, located on the north side of 5 mile, just west of Beck road.  The park has trails for walking, and offers fields for baseball, softball, and soccer.

The Michigan Rush (in blue) defeated FSC Lightning (in white) 5-1.

Founders Cup Tournament games are usually played with more intensity then divisional games!
