Semi-Pro Football: USFA News
The USFA (United States Football Association) is an organization that provides Regional tournaments, and National Championship Games for semi-pro football teams. National Bowl Weekend is a series of National Championship Bowl games for semi-pro football teams. Bowl games include the Tangerine Bowl, the Orange Blossom Bowl, the Palm Bowl, the North American Bowl, and the Florida Bowl. The 2017 National Bowl Weekend is scheduled for January 14th, and January 15th, at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand, Florida. Oakland: 2016 NCFA Champs
The Oakland University Golden Grizzlies football team won the 2016 NCFA National Championship. |
On Saturday, December 3rd, the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies football team defeated the Middle Georgia State University Knights 24-14 to win the 2016 NCFA (National Club Football Association) National Championship. The 2016 NCFA Championship Game was played at West Family Stadium in Wheeling, West Virginia. Golden Grizzlies WR/DB #3 Shakeer Williams was named as the game's MVP (Most Valuable Player). The Oakland University football team finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 12-0. The Golden Grizzlies compete in the Great Lakes Conference, and the team played their home games at the Auburn Hills Civic Center located at 1800 Valleyview Drive. Semi-Pro Football: GLFL News
The GLFL (Great Lakes Football League) is a semi-pro football league that currently features 9 teams from across the State of Michigan. The GLFL is divided into two divisions, and teams include the Capital City Stealth, the Muskegon Mustangs, the Michigan Hurricanes, the Northern Michigan Wolves, the Lake Michigan Havoc, the Detroit Ravens, the Detroit Seminoles, the Detroit Diesels, and the Flint Fury. The Detroit Ravens won the 2016 GLFL Championship by defeating the Muskegon Mustangs 48-28 on September 10th, 2016. The Detroit Ravens finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 12-0. On Saturday, the Chicago Steel defeated the USA NTDP U-18 Team 4-1. |
On Saturday, December 3rd, the Chicago Steel defeated the USA NTDP (National Team Development Program) U-18 Team 4-1. Team USA outshot the Steel 31-23. Both teams compete in the USHL (United States Hockey League). Saturday night's game was played at the USA Hockey Arena located at 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth. The USA NTDP is currently in 8th place in the Eastern Conference of the USHL with 11 points, and an overall record of 5-11-1 (1 overtime loss). Catholic Central 2-2 St. Mary's

On Saturday, December 3rd, the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks skated to a 2-2 tie against the Orchard Lake St. Mary's Eaglets. The Shamrocks were able to earn a 2-0 victory over the Eaglets the previous night. Saturday night's game was played at the USA Hockey Arena located at 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth. Henry Ford 78-68 Glen Oaks

Both schools are NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) programs, and both teams compete in the MCCAA (Michigan Community College Athletic Association).
