On Saturday, December 3rd, the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies football team defeated the Middle Georgia State University Knights 24-14 to win the 2016 NCFA (National Club Football Association) National Championship. The 2016 NCFA Championship Game was played at West Family Stadium in Wheeling, West Virginia. Golden Grizzlies WR/DB #3 Shakeer Williams was named as the game's MVP (Most Valuable Player). The Oakland University football team finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 12-0. The Golden Grizzlies compete in the Great Lakes Conference, and the team played their home games at the Auburn Hills Civic Center located at 1800 Valleyview Drive. - The Golden Grizzlies defeated Eastern Connecticut State 35-18 to reach the 2016 NCFA Championship.
- The Golden Grizzlies defeated Robert Morris University-Peoria 29-0 to win the 2016 Great Lakes Conference Championship.
- The 2016 Great Lakes Conference Championship Game was played at Mulholland Stadium, in Dayton, Ohio.
- The Golden Grizzlies defeated the University of Pittsburgh by way of forfeit on October 1st.
- The Golden Grizzlies defeated the Lake Michigan Havoc 45-22 in a preseason game.
- The Golden Grizzles defeated the Capital City Stealth 37-27 in a preseason game.
