Memory Lane: Big Brown

Big Brown was the winner of the 2008 Kentucky Derby.  Big Brown went on to win the 2008 Preakness Stakes, but he lost at the 2008 Belmont Stakes.  Big Brown remains one of the most impressive, and most memorable horses that I've ever seen despite not capturing the Triple Crown.
There was speculation that Big Brown wasn't right for the 2008 Belmont Stakes.  A 38-1 longshot known as Da'Tara stunned the horse racing community by winning the 2008 Belmont Stakes.  Denis of Cork finished Place (2nd place), and Anak Nakal finished Show (3rd place).  Big Brown was eased towards the end of the race by jockey Kent Desormeaux.
Big Brown's victory in the 2008 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park (Hallandale Beach, Florida) helped qualify him for the 2008 Kentucky Derby.  Big Brown also won the 2008 Haskell Invitational, and the 2008 Monmouth Stakes.  Both of those races took place at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey after the 2008 Belmont Stakes.
Big Brown retired after suffering a career ending injury in October, of 2008.  Big Brown finished his career with an overall record of 7 wins, and only 1 loss.  Big Brown is currently 15 years old.
