ACHA: Recent Local Success!

Several local Universities have had recent success in the ACHA.  Davenport University won the title in 2010-2011.

The ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Asscociation) regular season is over, and the Conference Playoffs are underway.  Several Universities will compete for a National Championship, and some of our local area schools have had recent success.  Davenport University is the last school from Michigan to win the Division I title, but the ACHA has three divisions for men's hockey, and two divisions for the women.  Michigan State University fields a team in Division II of the ACHA, and the Spartans are the defending National Champions.  The men's team also won the title during the 2004-2005 season, and again in 2006-2007.  The Spartan women also play in the ACHA, and have won the National Championship twice. The MSU women compete in Division I of the ACHA women's league, along with 19 other schools.
Oakland University has also had some success in the ACHA.  The Golden Grizzlies won the Division I National Championship during the 2006-2007, and appeared in the National Championship game in 2011-2012. Eastern Michigan University also appeared in the Division I Championship during the 1993-1994 season, and again in 1999-2000.  The University of Michigan Dearborn hockey club played in the first ever ACHA Division I National Championship during the 1991-1992 season.  The Wolverines (known as the Wolves back then) lost to the Iowa State University Cyclones at a neutral site.  The first ACHA National Finals were held on the campus of Penn State University.
The Mitten State Sports Report has attended several college hockey games so far this season.  Click on past months to check out all of the Mitten State Sports Report's archived material.  You can always leave a comment, and you can email the Mitten State Sports Report directly at mittenstatesportsreport@rocketmail.com  Scroll down to check out past ACHA champions, or click on the link below for more information!
