ACHA: Recent Local Success!

Several local Universities have had recent success in the ACHA.  Davenport University won the title in 2010-2011.

The ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Asscociation) regular season is over, and the Conference Playoffs are underway.  Several Universities will compete for a National Championship, and some of our local area schools have had recent success.  Davenport University is the last school from Michigan to win the Division I title, but the ACHA has three divisions for men's hockey, and two divisions for the women.  Michigan State University fields a team in Division II of the ACHA, and the Spartans are the defending National Champions.  The men's team also won the title during the 2004-2005 season, and again in 2006-2007.  The Spartan women also play in the ACHA, and have won the National Championship twice. The MSU women compete in Division I of the ACHA women's league, along with 19 other schools.
Oakland University has also had some success in the ACHA.  The Golden Grizzlies won the Division I National Championship during the 2006-2007, and appeared in the National Championship game in 2011-2012. Eastern Michigan University also appeared in the Division I Championship during the 1993-1994 season, and again in 1999-2000.  The University of Michigan Dearborn hockey club played in the first ever ACHA Division I National Championship during the 1991-1992 season.  The Wolverines (known as the Wolves back then) lost to the Iowa State University Cyclones at a neutral site.  The first ACHA National Finals were held on the campus of Penn State University.
