The Detroit Fighting Irish are dormant for the 2022-2023 hockey season, and perhaps for good. The Fighting Irish previously competed in the Premier Division of the USPHL (United States Premier Hockey League). The Detroit Fighting Irish merged with the Motor City Hockey Club to form the Motor City Gamblers in 2022.
The Detroit Fighting Irish were founded in 2012 as Tennyson Chevrolet. The team competed in the MWJHL (Midwest Junior Hockey League) from 2012-2015 before joining the USPHL for the 2015-2016 season. The Fighting Irish played their home games at various venues including the Brownstown Sports Center (formerly known as The Ice Box), and Southgate Arena. - The Detroit Fighting Irish finished the 2021-2022 season in 4th place in the USPHL Midwest East Division standings with 47 points, and an overall record of 22-19-3 (3 overtime losses).
- Sam Shaheen was the Head Coach of the Detroit Fighting Irish in 2021-2022.
- Sam Shaheen is currently the Head Coach of the Motor City Gamblers.
