AFL Returning In 2024

On Wednesday, February 1st, the AFL (Arena Football League) announced that they're returning in 2024 with sixteen teams, and a ten-game regular season schedule.  The 2024 AFL markets haven't been announced yet, but the state of Michigan has three former AFL franchises including the Detroit Drive, the Grand Rapids Rampage, and the Detroit Fury.

The Albany Empire won Arena Bowl 32 in 2019.  The AFL played their inaugural season in 1987, but the league last played in 2019 with six teams, and no big television deal.  Many of the most popular indoor franchises like the Arizona Rattlers, and the Iowa Barnstormers have competed in the IFL (Indoor Football League) for several years.  The AFL is under new ownership, and Lee A. Hutton III will serve as the new league Commissioner.
